Job Summary

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we'd love for you to be a part of it as our Controller, Property and Casualty Insurance.

Reporting to the VP, Corp Controller / P&C Chief Accounting Officer, the P&C Controller will manage the Accounting Department for our Property and Casualty insurance division. High-level responsibilities include financial management including leading the monthly close process, regulatory compliance and SOX controls. This position is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of historical financial results. The Controller will help with projects to standardize finance processes and procedures, streamline transactions, and obtain clarity of finance processes to support consistent and efficient division performance. This role requires a deep understanding of insurance accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and financial reporting. The Controller will collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information, maintain compliance with industry regulations, and contribute to strategic decision-making.

What You Will Do As A Controller, Property and Casualty Insurance

Financial Management

Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports for the P&C insurance division.

Manage and coordinate the budgeting and forecasting processes.

Monitor key financial metrics and provide insights to senior management.

Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Manage the monthly close process focusing on timely and accurate financial reporting, ensuring SOX compliance, and including proper completion of the month end close checklist.

Effectively manage all accounting department personnel.

Improve the accuracy and reliability of processes and standard financial/management reports.

Implement analytical review processes, exception reporting, etc. to minimize errors, rework, and reconciliations issues.

Work with data warehouse team to ensure accurate data is utilized for analyses.

Regulatory Compliance

Stay informed about changes in insurance regulations and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

Coordinate with regulatory agencies and auditors to address inquiries and provide necessary documentation.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

Accounting and Reporting:

Manage the insurance accounting team responsible for day-to-day operations, including premium accounting, claims accounting, and reinsurance accounting.

Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP).

Risk Management:

Collaborate with the risk management team to assess and mitigate financial risks associated with the P&C insurance operations.

Implement strategies to optimize capital efficiency while maintaining solvency requirements.

Audit and Compliance:

Coordinate external audits and examinations, ensuring timely and accurate provision of required information.

Address audit findings and implement corrective actions as needed.

Strategic Planning:

Work with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that support the overall business objectives.

Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making and business planning.

What You Will Bring As A Controller, Property and Casualty Insurance

Ten plus years of experience in insurance accounting and financial management, with a focus on P&C insurance.

College degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics, or the equivalent in work experience.

CPA, MBA experience preferred.

Knowledge of reinsurance.

Hands-on experience in Microsoft Office products, with expertise in Excel.

Work well under stress and tight deadlines.

In-depth knowledge of insurance regulations, GAAP, and SAP.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You Will Get As A Porch Group Team Member

Pay Range*: $157,500.00 - $220,500.00 Annually

*Please know your actual pay at Porch will reflect a number of factors among which are your work experience and skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and our Porch employees, as well as your geographic location.

Additionally, you will be eligible to receive long-term incentive awards, subject to program guidelines and approvals.

You will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to program guidelines and approvals.
