Camp Health Officer

The Cradle of Liberty Council, BSA is currently searching for a summer day camp health officer. This person is not required to live on-site.

The ideal applicant will have a background as a EMT, corpsman, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or licensed practitioner. At a minimum, the applicant must be 18 years old or older and have American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, or equivalents. In addition, once hired, you must be willing to become a registered member of the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America by completing the application, Youth Protection Training, and three (3) PA State Background check clearances and uphold the principles taught through the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

This role assists or conducts the medical re-check, making notes of situations which should be called to the attention of the station or group leaders. They will be responsible for keeping a bound Log of sick calls and will keep such records as required by OSHA and Workmen's Compensation Regulations as pertaining to Camp Staff.

When sickness or accidents occur during camp, and it becomes necessary to take the patient to a doctor or hospital, he or she will inform the Day Camp Director and the participant's parents. Maintain all drugs under lock and key. He or she will perform other duties as may be assigned by the Day Camp Director, and/or Camp Physician. The Camp Health Officer acts under and in accordance with the orders of the Council Physician and their standing orders for camp.

Camp Health Officer remains on property while campers and camp staff are there. Schedule is approximately 9 weeks of full-time work, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM-6:00 PM from Jun 10, 2024 through Aug 19, 2024.

Our camp activities do not often produce severe injuries, but preparedness is crucial in any camp setting, so the ideal candidate will be someone who is able to respond to situations quickly and have the knowledge to appropriately treat injuries and illness as they occur.
