Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Traffic Control Equipment Technician will assemble, test, maintain and repair company equipment (traffic control devices such as arrow boards and message boards). Read and understand equipment operations and maintenance manuals. Perform regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs, and replacements. Provide employee assistance and on-the-job training when requested and propose improvements to enhance equipment reliability and performance. Maintain the equipment they work with and document any maintenance and repair procedures for future reference. Develop cost reduction initiatives by utilizing materials and resources effectively and maintaining inventory control of equipment, tools, and parts.
Job Duties:
Maintaining traffic control device fleet (arrow boards, message boards, traffic lights)
Working on 12v electrical/circuitry troubleshooting and repair
Ensuring traffic control devices are functional and readily available for deployment
Diagnosing and fixing customer units
Performing computer diagnostics, battery testing, and light welding repairs
Minimizing downtime through a preventative maintenance program
Job Qualifications:
Electronics, hydraulic, and welding experience required
Ability to work extended or standby hours on an "on-call" basis
Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day
Ability to bend or kneel and work with arms lifted for prolonged periods
Ability to carry, lift, pull, and push 50 pounds several times per day, unaided
Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours
Ability to display basic knowledge of DOT requirements as it relates to company fleet
Ability to work around machines with moving parts and petroleum or chemical-based products, in excessive heat and cold
Must have the ability to travel and stay overnight for a short amount of time depending on project needs
Physical Requirements/ Work Environment:
Displays strong work ethic
Must display basic computer skills
Requires meticulous attention to detail
Experience operating a forklift is a plus
Experience in welding and metal fabrication is a plus
Hands-on experience with calibration and disassembly
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Strong command of the English language and good communication skills
Must possess a basic understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems
Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record
Must be able to successfully pass a drug test
