Job Title: Manufacturing Lead
Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Lead is responsible for assisting the Manufacturing Supervisor with the day-to-day operations of the department. The Manufacturing Lead ensures safety and quality standards are met, troubleshoots machine issues, performs basic machine maintenance, and ensures schedules and production timelines are maintained.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist Manufacturing Supervisor in developing personnel through use of hiring, training, performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, terminations, and similar personnel management activities
Coach and support team members in achieving department goals
Assume Supervisor duties when needed
Essential Duties
Support the Safety-First culture of Yellowstone Plastics and Volm Companies by ensuring safety policies are followed and operators maintain a clean and safe work environment
Report, investigate, and document all safety, quality, and process issues
Assign employees to machines or work assignments based on schedule priority, filling in where necessary
Proactively communicate with Supervisor regarding schedule changes and priorities
Continuously walk plant floor, checking quality, safety, waste, efficiency, and cleanliness
Assist operators with changeovers to help reduce setup time
Ensure machines are running safety and efficiently by helping with basic and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and perform duties of Machine Operators as necessary
Help onboard new employees by communicating with new employee, trainer, and manager to ensure the manager understands the new employee’s progress and utilizes proper machine operation
Understand production needs and coordinates machine operation to max capacity
Utilize Microsoft Outlook to check email twice per shift to keep up to date on communication and issues, updates staff members as necessary
Move and stage materials utilizing forklifts and handcarts to maintain the production flow
Assist machine operators and mechanics with hands-on machine troubleshooting to ensure production needs are met and machines stay running efficiently.

Ability to communicate in both the written and spoken language of English to a level that will allow the safe and effective performance of the job
Commitment to following and promoting safe work habits (compliance with all Safety/AIB policies and procedures)
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines
Capacity to effectively lead a team and comply with employment laws and regulations
Ability to effectively work with ERP system, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software
Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
Capacity to calculate, analyze, and track figures and make competent decisions based on those figures
Strong verbal, written, and group-presentation communication skills
Communication, teamwork, and customer service skills are critical as employees are expected to work directly and indirectly with all levels of employees, customers, and outside vendors
Consistently demonstrates a high level of responsibility and accountability
Education and Experience
Minimum of two years of experience working in manufacturing environment that includes knowledge of processes, equipment, parts, systems, and machinery used in the production of flexible packaging preferred
Physical Requirements
Constant walking, talking, sitting, standing, repetitive motions, movements requiring fine motors skills and visual acuity
Occasional climbing, kneeling, crouching, pulling, pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping, lifting (up to 60 pounds)
Work is typically performed in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment though certain tasks/projects may occur outside or in an office environment
Safety glasses, steel/composite toed shoes, and hearing protection when working on production floor

Employee is generally protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from high and low temperatures
Sufficient noise regularly requires employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level
Employee will be regularly exposed to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, stored potential energy, and working at heights of 4 or more feet
Employee may be exposed to conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dust mists, gases, limited ventilation, oils, chemicals, cutting fluids, etc.
