Key Information: Hours: Based on a 40-hour work week, (8 hours a day, Monday - Friday) with the potential for overtime as required.

Hourly rate is dependent on experience.

Job Description: We are currently recruiting an Occupational Health Nurse based in our Fort Saskatchewan office.

This position is a key member of the safety & health team and works closely with site supervisors and management.

This individual will provide Occupational Health Nursing services to the standards of practice recommended by the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses.

The Occupational Health Nurse will take a proactive approach, working with employees to reduce injuries through education, consultation, and various employee wellness initiatives.

Manages and oversees the evaluation and treatment of employees with injuries and/or illnesses and referral to a physician or hospital, and subsequent follow-up treatment.

Manages health care service provided to employees and subcontractors.

Reviews and monitors medical services contracts for projects or facilities (e.g., consulting physician, emergency response, emergency care providers, emergency evacuation providers, relating to medical services). Works with the HSE Department to develops and maintain site specific emergency response plan.

Follows-up on emergency hospital cases keeping Regional Director HSE, project management, and claims department apprised of the status of patients.

Maintains an adequate stock of necessary medical supplies, medications, and equipment for proper facility operation.

Maintains confidential medical records.

Attends HSE meetings to discuss health trends and to make recommendations.

Prepares occupational health and hygiene communications for the projects.

Develops and implements health programs and initiatives.

Reviews and assesses project specific medical protocols and procedures and makes recommendations to ensure conformance with client and/or provincial medical services protocols and procedures.

Determines appropriate level of professional licenses and certifications required to meet the level of competence as defined for project assignments.

Assists in planning emergency evacuation procedures in conjunction with contracts, project management, and the client.

Implements project medical database to support the reporting and follow up of injuries/illnesses managed by the on-site medical staff.

Experience and Certification Requirements: Applicants must be registered with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Must possess current CPR/AED Health Care Provider level.

Must possess a Government of Alberta approved first aid course at an Advanced First Aid level.

3 - 5 years' Nursing experience At least 5 years' practicing Advanced First Aid Knowledge of current occupational health practices and applicable legislation is desirable.

An Occupational Health Nurse Certificate or a combination of equivalent education and experience is desirable.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing (OHNC), CNA Certified Occupational Health Nurse Canada (COHN(C)), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Proficient in occupational nursing and the handling of emergency situations.

Knowledge of medical record keeping requirements in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice, applicable governmental regulations, and HSE requirements.

Proficiency and experience in interpreting and evaluating regulatory safety standards where applicable to health regulations.

Knowledge of and experience with data management systems and computer hardware/software.

Previous experience working on construction projects with responsibility for supervision of medical professionals.

Knowledge of and experience in establishing and organizing first-aid and medical treatment facilities.

Skills in verbal and written communication First Aid Trainer is considered an asset.

Proficient English language skills required.

A reliable means of transportation is required.

Education: A degree in Registered Nursing is required, and a certificate in one of the following; Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing (OHNC), CNA Certified Occupational Health Nurse Canada (COHN(C)), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Go ahead and be yourself.
