Piper Maddox has partnered with a highly established, multinational company with extensive reach in the energy markets. They are looking for a Sr. Power Electronics Engineer to lead distribution power system analysis, engineering, modeling, etc., for the Electrical Distribution Division. They are seeking someone with substantial experience with power electronics in relation to power distribution systems on both the hardware and software side which will enable them to offer customized solutions for their customers. This individual must have the ability to envision and apply power converters to real world problems in efforts to address the power quality issues.

Responsibilities:

Lead engineer in the design, test, performance acceptance tests at customer’s site of Power Electronics products (FACTS devices, SVC, STACOM) and systems in the power range > 500kVA applied in Power Distribution.

Develop and design IGBT/GTO/GCT/Thyristor based power converters, comprising both control circuits, power circuits, control software. Specification of auxiliary components, including magnetics (inductors, transformers), capacitors, power resistors, cooling fans, etc., as needed.

Review, interpret customer’s documentation to formulate design requirements for customer’s orders.

Perform analysis of customer’s power distribution systems using computer model simulation to optimize the design of the equipment in the customer’s order scope of supply.

System integration and packaging of the various subsystems in the customer’s order scope of supply based on project specific requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree Preferred, in Electrical Engineering.

7+ years experience in the design of power electronics devices and systems (Variable Frequency Drives, Solid State Power Converters, FACTS, STACOM, SVC) for industrial customers and large utilities, rated 500KVA power minimum.

Proficiency in real time control systems applied to Power Electronic converters. Development, Validation and Verification of software and firmware.

Proficiency in power and control circuit analysis with computer model simulation tools (MatLAB, MathCAD, Simulink, PSpice, and others)
