Senior Counsel - Commercial Real Estate Leasing

Are you a seasoned legal professional with a passion for navigating complex real estate transactions? We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our dynamic team, where you'll play a pivotal role in handling sophisticated legal matters and projects in the realm of commercial real estate leasing.

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid: Report to office 3 days per week)

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Draft and negotiate a diverse range of real estate agreements, including disposition and acquisition agreements, lease agreements, sublease agreements, lease amendments, and more.

Lead negotiations and facilitate the closure of complex real estate transactions, spanning dispositions, acquisitions, and redevelopments.

Assess and mitigate risks associated with real estate transactions, providing strategic recommendations and innovative solutions.

Offer legal counsel and support for leasing, subleasing, and development initiatives.

Review and negotiate construction contracts, ensuring compliance and optimal terms.

Collaborate with asset management and property management teams to address defaults and facilitate resolution.

Provide expert interpretation of leases and other real property documents, guiding business teams on risk assessment and strategic decisions.

Liaise with various business units and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective legal support.

Oversee relationships with external law firms and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration and optimal outcomes.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate Degree with a minimum of 8 years' experience in transactional retail or commercial real estate, encompassing dispositions, acquisitions, leasing, subleasing, development, construction contracts, and default resolution.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meeting deadlines with precision and professionalism.

Experience in both law firm and in-house settings preferred, with exposure to retail assets considered advantageous.

Proven capacity to operate autonomously, providing strategic counsel to senior business clients and navigating complex negotiations with finesse.

Strong analytical and conceptual skills, coupled with exceptional problem-solving abilities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration and clear articulation of legal concepts.

Self-motivated and proactive, with a track record of taking initiative and driving results independently.

Minimal travel required (less than 5%).
