POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a casual position responsible for the operation and upkeep of all vessels and related equipment in accordance with the Captain's and/or Pilot's, Boatswain's instructions. Work is performed indoors/outdoors and can be in any weather condition. Work schedules can be modified to fit the departmental needs which may require the employee to work shift work and/or weekends. This casual position is part-time with no guaranteed number of hours, nor are there any guaranteed assignments.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist passengers in making their transit safe and enjoyable, demonstrate the use of safety equipment as required, monitor passenger access/egress areas for safety and integrity
· Maintain vessel cleanliness: hosing, buffing, swabbing, sweeping and scrubbing the vessel, maintain a proper lookout, conducting watchman tour
· Monitor AV/PA equipment for quality, volume and clarity
· Provide the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal and external customers
· Contributes to the safe operation of vessels and equipment
· Responds decisively and effectively to emergency situations
III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Handling mooring and heaving lines
Handling of vessel rescue boats under power and oars
Knowledge and ability to use effectively all forms of lifesaving and firefighting equipment
Fueling vessels
Ability to traverse inclined and vertical ladders and ramps
Confidence and ability to work with and around rotating machinery, and close to the water's edge
Possess excellent Customer Service Skills
Line and wire splicing
IV. TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTS
· Decks voids and bulwarks of vessels of vessels
V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES
· Valid driver’s license
· Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card)
· Valid MMC (Merchant Mariners Credential) endorsed as Able Seaman
VI. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Must be at least 18 years old
High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent related experience
VII. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· Subject to a background investigation
· Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their bi-weekly pay
· Subject to a pre-employment drug test
