Position Summary

Reporting to the Chair, School of Aviation, the professor/ instructor will provide meaningful feedback, grading reports, and progression records for each training event.

Program Area/Level

Responsible for teaching at all levels including Bachelor of Aviation Technology, Professional Pilot Operations, and various courses that are part of the Integrated Transport Canada elements.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Flight Instructor of Seneca or designate, the Professor is responsible for:

Flight and Ground Instruction

Providing exceptional primary and supervisory flight instruction in accordance with the Training, Operations, and SOP manuals to integrated ATPL students toward their Private and Commercial Licenses, and Multi-Engine and Group 1 IFR ratings (depending on multi-engine experience).

Delivering high-quality preparatory ground instruction and pre- and post-flight briefings.

May be appointed to teach academic courses in theory and knowledge for the PPL, CPL, IFR, and ATPL written examinations in addition to flight instruction duties.

Administrative Tasks and Record-Keeping

Accurately maintaining flight records, logs, and forms for each training event.

Supervising Class IV Instructors and maintaining direct supervision records.

Assisting with the development of training materials and assigned projects under the direction of the Phase Leads and Chief Flight Instructor.

Providing leadership to authorized persons or other administrative staff as required to meet Transport Canada requirements as a leading Flight Training Unit and ensure records are updated in a timely and accurate manner.

Performing or assisting with authorized person duties, and to help support other administrative staff as required to meet Transport Canada FTU requirements.

Performing the duties of Duty Instructor or Assistant Duty Instructor as required.

Regulatory and Procedural Compliance

Actively participating in Seneca’s safety culture in accordance with the Safety Management System.

Ensuring all licenses, ratings, and medical are current.

Ensuring you are fit for duty in accordance with the Operations Manual, Training Manual, SOPs, and Transport Canada guidelines.

Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Ratings

Minimum completed post-secondary diploma in aviation is required. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aviation or other field is preferred.

Category 1 Aviation Medical holder.

Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License (Aeroplane) is required.

Minimum valid Class 2 Flight Instructor rating; Class 1 Instructor Rating is preferred. The flight test record must be satisfactory.

Valid Group 1 Instrument Rating required.

Transport Canada Pilot Examiner authority for PPL, CPL, Multi-Engine, IFR, or Instructor Rating is preferred.

Experience

Minimum 1000 hours of Flight Instruction experience.

Experience supervising Class 4 flight instructors is required.

Teaching experience - classroom or PGI - is required.

Experience working in an SOP environment with integrated training preferred.

300 or more hours multi-engine flight experience is preferred.

CAR 604, 703, 704, or 705 flight and/or leadership experience is an asset.

Skills

Demonstrated competencies to deliver high-quality flight and ground instruction in accordance with the Seneca Training Manual, Seneca Operations Manual, Standard Operating Procedures, and Transport Canada guidance material.

Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the Flight line team.

Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are an asset.

Commitment to a team approach for problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Strong understanding and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.

Note: A teaching and flight demonstration will be required during the recruitment process. Candidates that do not hold current and valid required Transport Canada issued licenses and ratings will not be considered.

Consideration will be given to qualified internal full-time academic and partial-load employees first in accordance with the Collective Agreement requirements. New employees will be required to demonstrate the Faculty Basic Competencies by the end of their probationary period.
