The Ophthalmic Assistant - Eye Clinic performs a variety of duties under the supervision of the Ophthalmologist/Optometrist and/or RN Clinic Leader to support patient care functions in the Eye Clinic. Provides age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients

Responsibilities

Tests visual acuity, stereo vision, and color vision. Conducts visual field testing using both the Goldman Perimeter and Humphrey Visual Fields Analyzer

Evaluates ocular anatomy, ocular motility and papillary responses. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as needed

Performs autorefraction

Performs ophthalmic photography both external and fundus photos

Accurately records information in EMR according to established standards and physician’s requirements

Cares for and maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment

Provides instruction to patient/care giver within the limits of his/her knowledge as directed by the physician.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, required.Certifications: Certification as a COA, required within one year of hiring.Skills: • Strong written and verbal communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.• Positive customer service skills.
