Position Overview

The City and Regional Planning Section of the Knowlton School is accepting applications for a Lecturer appointment (30 hours a week; 75% FTE) to teach undergraduate and/or graduate course(s)in the City and Regional Planning Section. Duties include but are not limited to curriculum/syllabus design, content and materials development, teaching, and service activities.

The selected candidate(s) will be expected to complete activities and provide support for developing and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students, depending on chosen candidate’s degree certification.

All courses are taught in person on the University’s main campus in Columbus, Ohio.

Education and Experience Requirements

A graduate degree in City and Regional Planning. A PhD degree in City and Regional Planning is preferred.

Teaching experience at the university level. Demonstrated experience with experiential learning methods preferred (for example planning studios, engaged pedagogy etc...)

Areas of specialization include sustainable urbanism, urban design, urban placemaking

Preferred skills include familiarity with data visualization and spatial analysis software (including mapping for planning applications)

Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.

A commitment to or demonstrated efforts in teaching that reflect Ohio State’s Shared Values.

From its origins as a graduate program, CRP has grown to its present form offering the most degree programs in the Knowlton School (3) including the second largest (BSCRP) and the only PhD program.

CRP at Knowlton is one of only 5 ACSP member programs to offer undergraduate and graduate PAB-accredited degrees and a PhD in City and Regional Planning. The BSCRP program itself is one of only 15 accredited undergraduate programs in North America and is now over 15 years old. The MCRP program is ranked in the top 25 nationally overall and ranks in the top 5 of small planning programs and top 10 among big city programs.

The highly competitive CRP PhD program ranks #11 among ACSP member schools in terms of placement of graduates in faculty positions and graduated its 100th PhD student in 2022. The section celebrates the 40th anniversary of the PhD program in 2024.

The City and Regional Planning Section is home to the Journal of Planning Literature and the faculty includes current editors of the Journal of Urban Affairs, Regional Studies, and the Journal of the American Planning Association. Located in the award-winning Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects-designed building on The Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus, the Knowlton School fosters an environment for innovative design research and critical inquiry within its three sections: architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning.
