To perform diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine examinations utilizing radionuclides as ordered by a physician, following the established policies of the Department. Able to provide appropriate care for patients served, regardless of age. Must provide on call coverage on weekends, holidays and off shifts as deemed necessary in order to maintain level of departmental services.

This job description and requirements for this position have been approved by the Medical Chairman for the Department of Diagnostic Imaging as well as the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination and assists in therapeutic treatments under the direction of a Radiologist, following the established policies of the department, and following all NRC and State Regulations.

1.1 Understands and practices proper use of all department equipment.

2. Conducts appropriate patient assessment, care and teaching relatives to patient diagnosis and age of patient.

2.1 Interacts professionally at all time with patient and family. Assures privacy and confidentiality. Obtains patient history and evaluates pre-requisites for examination including consent when needed. Assure patient understanding of procedures. Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient's condition during procedure. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including adult and geriatric populations.

3. Responsible for the safety of patients and staff.

3.1 Observes Nuclear Medicine safety precautions at all times. Acts as a resource to staff regarding Nuclear Medicine safety. Understands proper use of all equipment, never operating equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's standards. Responsible for proactive stance in 'near miss' reporting . Completes incident/occurrence reports in a timely fashion. Actively participates in performance improvement activities related to patient and staff safety.

4. Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department.

4.1 Completes assignments within a reasonable time frame with minimal errors. Reviews next day and makes necessary preparations. Exhibits punctuality and flexibility in schedule. Covers 'on-call' rotation in a responsible manner, responding on-site within forth-five (45) minutes of contact. Maintains work area to promote efficient operation (i.e. Assuring availability of stock supplies).

5. Identified personal learning needs and opportunities for career growth.

5.1 Responsible for own learning needs and seeks educational opportunities to meet those needs. Attends inservice programs and outside workshops, seminars, training classes, and educational programs to keep current in technical developments in the field. Demonstrates this knowledge by contributing to improved service. Maintains current license requirements.

6. It will be the responsibility of the Technologist to submit to the Chief Technologist one month prior to his/her review pertinent information regarding his/her performance throughout the year. This information would include:

b. Letters from Patients

c. Advanced Level Certifications

d. Annual A. R. R. T. Renewed Certifications

e. Completion of Mandatory In-Services (Dates)

f. Conferences/Training Programs

g. In-Services Attended/Presented

h. Any other information that you would like considered before your performance appraisal is made.

7. Practices the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior.

7.1 15 6. Staff will conduct themselves by the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior

1. Staff will practice the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior with all patient and visitor

encounters.

1.0 Staff will present themselves in a friendly and courteous manner.

1.1 Staff will identify themselves and their role while encouraging a Patient and Family Center

experience.

1.2 Staff will fully explain procedure and ask if the patient has any additional questions about the

procedure.

1.3 Staff will address any comfort issues a patient may have prior to starting procedure. 1.4 Staff will

thank patient once procedure is completed and ask the patient if they have any additional

questions.

2. Staff will conduct themselves by the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior with all interactions

with all permanent, temporary and contracted employees of the YNNHS. 2.0 Staff will communicate with

each other in a professional manner with any and all interactions, 2.1 Staff will maintain composure with

any and all interactions. 2.2 Staff will refer to Management when a conflict cannot be resolved

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Graduation from an approved program in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Additional experience in PET imaging is preferred.

LICENSURE

Registered by the A.R.R.T. in the category of Nuclear Medicine or credentialed with The NMTCB

SPECIAL SKILLS

Radiation Safety skills that pertain to the Nuclear Medicine Technologist

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Standing and walking most of the day. Working with lightweight equipment with occasional lifting, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Must have the ability to see and hear all the surrounding activities in the Deparmtent. May be exposed to infectious diseases, or hazardous materials including radioactivity. Must at times wear eye protection, lab coat, face protection, sterile gowns and gloves. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Average Nuclear Medicine and clinical radiology setting.
