POSITION: Airport Maintenance Technician

This position follows all provisions of the CSEA collective bargaining agreement.

SPECIALTY: Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic

REPORTS TO: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Performs a wide variety of tasks involved in repairing and maintaining electric, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicle and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Notifies and coordinates routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance with the Lead Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic.

Provides Lead Mechanic with lists of items requiring reorder or replacement.

Read job and/or preventive maintenance orders and observes and listens to vehicles/equipment in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.

Performs routine and non-routine inspection and maintenance on Airport vehicles and equipment.

Disassembles units such as engines, transmissions, or differentials and inspects parts for wear; overhauls and /or replaces engines and transmissions; repairs/recharges or replaces parts such as batteries pistons, rods, gears, valves and bearings; overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps; rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks; rewires or installs new ignition systems, lights, and instrument panes; relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front ends, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiators; mends damaged body and fender parts; replaces and adjusts headlights and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors and windshield wipers; examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on vehicles, and makes adjustments; lubricates moving parts and drives repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.

Inspects tools and equipment on a regular basis to ensure operational safety; attends various training session; performs routine shop keeping duties in order to ensure a safe hazard free work environment.

Participates in Total Quality Management Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum of three years experience in the repair and maintenance of light trucks and diesel equipment. Must be qualified on stick and mig welding; have computer tune up experience and knowledge of fuel injector and hydraulic systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to suppliers and other employees of the organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s C.D.L., Class B, License as a condition of employment.
