Purpose of the Role

The primary responsibility is to operate the yard loading shovel, this will involve managing stockpiles from the processing plant and loading HGVs with aggregate. Safety and proper operation of the machine are paramount. Additionally, the operator may be directed by Site Management to operate other mobile plant machines, provided they are certified to do so safely. Maintenance tasks on the mobile plant, as required by both the manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials, are also part of the job. Finally, the operator may be assigned other duties within their capabilities at the main processing plant, following recommendations from Site Management.

Key accountabilities

Primarily to operate wheeled loading shovels managing stockpiles and loading HGV tippers.

To be able to operate the machine in a safe and proper manner.

To be able to operate any other mobile plant machines, as directed by Site Management, to which they are certificated in safe and proper manner.

To undertake maintenance works to mobile plant as required by manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials / Smiths Concrete.

To undertake other duties within their scope on the main processing plant in accordance with Site Management recommendations.

To be able to operate the machine in a safe and proper manner.

To be able to operate any other mobile plant machines, as directed by Site Management, to which they are certificated in safe and proper manner.

To operate mobile plant in a safe and efficient manner

To maintain where required mobile plant in a good order physically with re-fuelling, greasing, cleaning in accordance with the manufacturers and Heidelberg Materials UK / Smiths Concrete recommendations.

To complete daily inspection sheets of the conditions of static & mobile plant.

To report problems or defects of static & mobile plant to the site supervisor.

To complete near miss reports as required by Site Management.

To operate plant & machinery in an energy efficient manner.

Education/Qualification

Good general education required and large amount of health and safety regulations and Quarry Regulations are required to be understood and carried out.

Certification by EPIC to operate mobile plant.

NVQ level 2 in mobile plant operations required following EPIC completion.
