POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant supports integrated primary healthcare and behavioral health care management for clients involved in a large, cutting-edge integrated behavioral health and primary care initiative at Catholic Charities' New Haven Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.

Assists clinic psychiatric staff by collecting vitals, ordering labs and collecting urine specimens for medical testing and/or drug screens. Collects client health screening information and enters it into the electronic medical record (EMR). Interviews client for additional health information as needed. Works on-site primary care provider to ensure that clients are registered and receive primary care appointments. Serves as a member of the clinic’s integrated care team. Administers project evaluation tools as needed.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists clinic psychiatric staff by collecting vitals, ordering labs and collecting urine specimens for medical testing and/or drug screens.

Assists with client registration in on-site medical clinic; ensures clients have primary care appointments and works with integrated care team to ensure client attendance. Collects client health screening and enters it into the electronic medical records.

Interviews clients for additional health information as needed. Takes client vitals (blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, waist circumference) before visits.

Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, imputing data into the computer and filing.

Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of medical supplies. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

Serves as a member of the clinic’s integrated care team, attending meetings as need.

Administers project evaluation tools as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or Equivalency

Medical Assistant Certification or Certified Nurse Aide Certificate

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish

Proficient in Microsoft environment, notably Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to document services in an Electronic Clinical Record.

Written and oral fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.

Cultural competence. Must value the differences and integration of cultural attitudes, beliefs, and practices into programming.
