Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This Excavation Construction Supervisor manages and reports on aspects of all projects, including, but not limited to: safety, clearing, excavation, embankment, soil stabilization, drainage, pipe installation, base installation, grading and paving. This position assigns work and equipment; manages, plans, schedules and orders materials; and provides project reports for the Accounting Department in order to ensure projects stay schedule and in budget. The Excavation Construction Supervisor is responsible for training employees on safe equipment operation and work practices and ensures compliance with company safety policies, as well as Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and report on aspects of all projects, including safety, clearing, excavation, embankment, soil stabilization, drainage, pipe installation, base installation, grading and paving.
Schedule, assign equipment to and supervise the work of laborers and equipment operators, including sub-contractors.
Inspect all areas for safety compliance and corrects any unsafe practices or conditions, and makes needed corrections.
Interpret plans and specs for construction projects per plans and ensure schedule and budget compliance.
Enforce compliance with company policies and with OSHA and MSHA regulations.
Train employees on the safe operation of construction equipment, tools, job techniques, and skills.
Inspect and maintain equipment in good working order.
Code and report employee and equipment time to the department’s Administrative Assistant.
Submit daily reports on inventory and project progress.
Review vehicle condition reports (VCRs) and report any needed repairs to the Maintenance Department.
May be required to travel to other sites.
Compute job costs and manage projects within cost guidelines.
Complete annual employee performance evaluations.
Operate equipment as necessary.
In corroboration with management and the Human Resources Department, communicate disciplinary actions.
Maintain a professional demeanor with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
At least five years of experience operating heavy equipment
At least one year of supervisory experience
Experience in mass excavation, excavation, embankment, drainage, base placement, and grading
Familiarity with soil stabilization, paving requirements, and pipe installation
Ability to understand project layouts and staking
Ability to read and understand plans and drawings
Leadership and training skills
Proficiency with using a personal computer
Knowledge of proper equipment utilization.
Must demonstrate an understanding of the mechanics of construction equipment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Must demonstrate a strong work ethic
Must have dependable transportation
Willingness to work weekends and holidays as requested or needed
Willingness to work varying job shifts depending on production needs
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or its equivalent
Experience operating equipment with GPS
Ability to survey and layout projects
First Aid/CPR certification
MSHA certified (5000-23)
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Valid class C driver’s license
Safe driving for the past three years
