Local Fleet Driver - Class A

Job Description

Position Summary

The Fleet Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently driving a 53ft tractor/trailer to haul all supplies and materials needed for production safely and timely to the intended location. Runs will not extend further than 100 air miles from Oceanside, CA and will park their equipment at the manufacturing facility every night. The driver will be expected to maintain equipment and monitor trailer functionality, cleanliness and readiness for departure.

Schedule: This position is either Monday through Friday or Thursday through Sunday. Drivers may flex up to 45 hours per week depending on the company’s needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must abide by schedule, establish a route, and arrive on time for pickup and delivery appointments.

Execute delivery or pick up of goods to customers accurately based on dispatch details.

Comply with all CHP and DOT rules and regulations.

Equipment will need to be inspected after use to ensure good mechanical condition for road safety.

Pre- and post-trip, DVIR, accurate driver logs, clean cabs, windows, windshields, and mirrors must always be kept clean. All debris should be removed from truck and trailer.

Communicate to dispatch when arriving to appointments or any delays or incidences in route.

Must be flexible with last-minute changes in schedule.

Capable and comfortable with dropping 2-4 trailers per day.

Double check all load securements.

Must be willing to slip seat assigned equipment with another driver (after-after assignment).

Maintains cleanliness of the trailers and tractor, including periodically sweeping inside trailer and clearing debris.

Position will occasionally include lifting products that weigh up to 40 lbs, crouching and pushing/pulling pallet jack.

Adhere to SOP, SSOP, GMP, and HACCP guidelines when in the plant.

Regular and reliable attendance.

Job Qualifications

Education:

Valid Class A CDL commercial vehicle operator’s license (issued by one state or jurisdiction).

A total of 9 months of Class A CDL experience within the last 24 months with 6 months being consecutive.

Driver Requirements:

Pass DOT physical and DOT Road Tests.

No at-fault accidents in commercial vehicles in the past five years.

Other Skills:

Must have strong leadership skills.

Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines.

Other Abilities:

Ability to read and speak English to speak to your team and customers, drive and understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries and make entries to reports and records.

Ability to adapt well to changes in direction and priority in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

Ability to follow precise directions.

Ability to problem solve and critical thinking.

Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.

Working and Environmental Conditions

Must live within 25 miles of Oceanside, CA.

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of sitting/standing, including sitting behind the steering wheel. Engaging in phone conversations and responding to text messages (when stationary and safe). Occasionally lifting equipment weighing up to 20 lbs.
