GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Responsibility for planning, coordinating, administering, and managing the activities of the process engineering, technical, maintenance and tooling functions of the Auburn plant operations. The primary responsibility of the Technical Manager is to support plant operations by establishing, providing and maintaining the process engineering and technical disciplines required to ensure that robust manufacturing processes are achieved to meet the plant’s productivity, delivery, quality and safety objectives. Direct, plan and coordinate activities in the Maintenance Department, ensuring proper machine repair and uptime are achieved.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for planning, coordinating, administering, and managing the activities of the manufacturing process engineering, maintenance and tooling functions.

Responsible for the efficient and cost-effective repair and maintenance of all related plant equipment, buildings, and grounds.

Supervises all process engineering, technical, maintenance, and tooling personnel.

Works closely with staff to plan and design methods to maintain, improve or enhance existing manufacturing processes.

Develops, establishes and ensures appropriate departmental standards, methods, policies, procedures and documentation are in place and maintained.

Develop, implement, and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program on all related plant assets which include, but are not limited to, molding machines, compressors, chillers, thermolators, and welders.

Ensures departmental discipline in all required procedures, and ensures all molding and assembly process documentation as defined and established are maintained.

Ensures the completion of accurate documentation associated with all maintenance procedures inclusive of preventative / predictive maintenance and emergency repair activities.

Organizes departmental structure by assigning responsibilities, delegating authority, recruiting and selection, orienting, and training employees.

Monitors and analyzes molding and assembly process performance for continuous improvement opportunities.

Maintain associated plant equipment to achieve 90% or better asset utilization. Continue to monitor the effectiveness and utilization of plant assets and create improvement plans to continuously improve utilization indices.

Develops and implements processing and tooling standards that promote SMED principles.

Is responsible for development and validation of new production processes as well as upgrading existing production processes. Assists in layout, tooling design, and programming robotics for automated part removal and other post-molding operations.

Initiates business cases for new capital equipment or more cost-effective processing methods.

Work in partnership with Plant Leadership Team to identify strategic objectives and goals for future manufacturing processes and/or operations.

Participates in solving quality problems involving molding, tooling, and equipment, and drives improvement and process changes that improve cost and efficiency.

Manages process evaluations, troubleshooting, and establishes process engineering protocols.

Establishes detailed instructions and guidelines for process engineering, tooling and maintenance departments.

Supports Manufacturing in the launch of new programs.

Defines specifications for new or improved equipment, and participates in equipment design in coordination with designers, vendors, and other engineering groups.

Recommend, justify, and maintain spare parts crib that enables the facility to function effectively through the effective utilization of company assets.

Prioritize repair and maintenance activities based on customer demand and safety compliance.

Enforce the appropriate safety policies and procedures to ensure total compliance of OSHA regulations.

Support production activities throughout the day and be willing to be available on an “on call” basis to ensure customer and production requirements are met.

Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager and provides General Manager with various progress reports and status updates required.

Supports RPS strategic plan by meeting monthly, quarterly and annual goals and objectives, including all KPIs and KPMs pertaining to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People and Environment which are established and tracked by the ROS Balance Scorecard. Assumes direct responsibility for meeting primary goals and objectives, as well as assuming a shared and supporting responsibility with other peer managers for meeting their primary goals and objectives

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS/BA or Technical Degree, or equivalent demonstrative experience, is preferred

Paulson or equivalent training would be an asset

HVAC certification would be an asset

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/TASKS/ABILITIES:

Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic competencies. Must have a proven track record that demonstrates these competencies.

Strong functional knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance procedures and practices.

Working knowledge of plant material feed systems, and robots (Wittmann, UR, and or Fanuc is an asset).

Strong functional knowledge of programmable controls, including the ability to troubleshoot and modify programs through the use of appropriate tools.

Must be a good leader and team player.

Must demonstrate positive people skills.

Must be able to communicate intelligently and calmly.

Must have excellent knowledge and expertise in molding machines, materials, equipment and processes.

Must be willing to work flexible hours to support vacations, samples, and manufacturing needs.

Must have better than average computer skills and math skills.

Must have ability to manage multiple projects.

Ability to work under significant time pressures.

Must be willing to continue education to stay current with changes in technology.
