Controls Engineer

The Controls Engineer will lead and support activities including PLC programming, procurement, electrical design power and control and evaluation, construction, startup, troubleshooting, and manufacturing instruction documentation. This position will be responsible for daily activities of assigned projects or tasks, including strict adherence to site EHS requirements, completion of assigned tasks, and providing updates on project status to all relevant team members, management, and others.

Responsibilities

Responsibility for overall leadership and ownership for planning and execution of capital investment (and other) for controls and power projects. Responsibility will extend from own project execution to managing groups of projects in designated plant areas through mentoring, training and guidance to other site project leaders and support members.

Responsible for delivery of assigned project objectives for scope, schedule, budget, and cash flow. Ensure daily activities are aligned with overall project priorities and will work rigorously to complete project deliverables.

Understand and comply with all site EHS, engineering and electrical standards and contribute innovative ideas to improve safety, promote efficiency, reduce cost, and increase performance.

Support or lead the initiative to replace obsolete PLCs throughout our 4 Ohio locations.

Engage with operational teams and other internal customers to ensure satisfaction of agreed objectives. Collaborate with all levels of the operational team (floor to management) in order to gather input on project objectives and leverage opportunities based on historical challenges.

Actively participate in the development of their own control engineering skills, functional competencies, and personal effectiveness.

Develop capital plans and budgets that include cost, and resource requirements to meet both external and internal customers commitments. Support the annual operating plan process for the business unit.

Develop and maintain key supplier/contractor relationships for consistent and reliable project execution.

Basic Qualifications:

BS degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering

6+ years prior experience of controls experience in manufacturing environment

Strong project management experience and motivation skills within all layers of the business

Experience in GE 90-30 90-70 PLC and Proficy Machine Edition programming environment. HMI programming, GE QuickPanel.

Current experience with Allen Bradley Compact and Control Logic PLC’s and Studio5000 programming environment. A-B FactoryTalk ME and SE.

Act as Steward for the sites’ Process Control Network, upgrading the application as new operating system and software become available.

Current expertise with AutoCAD 2019 or higher, to create new drawings and edit older designs.

Confident communications, both written and verbal

Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)

Proven organization and teamwork skills within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Six Sigma Greenbelt certification (preferred), with solid statistical analysis and problem-solving expertise

SAP requisition experience (or comparable ERP knowledge)

2D and 3D CAD Drawing Experience (AutoCAD and Solidworks)

Key Relationships:

Operations teams, Procurement, Continuous Improvement, NPI

Travel Requirements:

10-25% within Ohio

Working Conditions:

An element of the work may be performed in an office environment located in a manufacturing plant. Routinely, the Controls Engineer will interact with employees and leadership on the plant floor. Proper personal protective equipment must be worn during those times; safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed shoes.

Our Controls Engineer will earn a variable compensation including base salary and bonus. Base salary range takes into consideration experience, education, and training. Not to mention all the amazing benefits available for employee selection as well.
