Objective:

Responsible for overseeing daily operations within the Maintenance Department (Instrument Group).

Job Responsibilities:

The following duties exemplify the typical responsibilities associated with this role and serve as a basis for determining the corresponding wage rate. This list is not exhaustive.

Collaborate with the department foreperson to implement a safety program adhering to established safe work practices (pre-job and post-job).

Diagnose, repair, and upkeep the following systems: Station HVAC and control

Tune station and auxiliary combustion control systems

Controls for makeup, wastewater, feedwater, and condensate systems

Calibration of pressure, temperature, flow, and level transducers

Calibration of turbine/generator controls and supervisory systems

Calibration of electric and pneumatic controls, operators, and positioners

Monitoring and reporting on air pollution emission equipment

Maintenance of the plant data acquisition system

Oversight of environmental systems, including active carbon injection, dry sorbent injection, and selective catalytic reduction

Install cable and conduit on a limited basis.

Safely handle equipment with steam pressures of 6000 PSI and 1000 F.

Document instrument equipment records related to tests, modifications, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Complete necessary documentation for prints and drawings.

Acquaint oneself with equipment vendor information files, reports, instrument maintenance procedures, and other assigned written materials.

Attend and participate in training programs to maintain a high level of proficiency. Assist in training instrument trainees.

Ensure electrical and pneumatic test and safety equipment is in proper operating order.

Maintain clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.

Develop instrument maintenance procedures.

Safeguard Cooperative property.

Undertake other duties historically performed by this classification and any related or comparable duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Internal Candidates: Completion of a state-approved instrument apprenticeship program OR comparable education and work experience.

External Candidates: Associate degree in Instrumentation or a directly related field, along with three years of related experience.

Skills:

Proficiency in performing duties of technicians and trainees.

Familiarity with the budget process, station cost center breakdown, accounting system, and account numbers.

Completion of personnel, accounting, safety, and CMMS training.

Computer literacy and troubleshooting skills for plant computer control systems.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, lift (up to 45 lbs., and occasionally 75 lbs.), push/pull, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand, bend, and reach/stretch.

Operation of overhead cranes, hijacker, stack elevator, pickup, end-loader, and telephone.

Manipulation of test equipment, maintenance tools and equipment, ladders, cable, and wire.

Respirator certification required.

Environmental Demands:

Work indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, and frequently in extreme noise.

Frequent exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, occasional exposure to fumes/odors, dust, chemicals, toxic waste hazards, and ionization radiation.

Frequent work at heights.

Other Job Characteristics:

Off-duty availability and emergency call-in.

Regular interaction with contractors, salespeople, and co-workers.

Limited supervision, team-oriented, and capable of working independently.

Involves routine and variable tasks in a variably paced environment.

Willingness to work overtime as required.

Must reside/relocate primary permanent residence within 35 air miles of the JPM power plant by the end of the transfer or initial introductory period. Failure to comply may result in layoff or termination.
