Job Summary

Under direction of the Lead Technologist, the primary responsibilities of the Mammography Technologist are to operate the Mammography equipment, perform specified exams, produce high quality images and support equipment to ensure proper function. The Mammography technologist is expected to provide excellent customer service, and participate in all support office duties.

Job Duties

Understands and employs necessary radiation safety precautions.

Ensures necessary patient and exam information/scripts/paperwork are in order prior to beginning exam.

Greets customers in a polite and prompt manner.

Reviews or completes exam questionnaires with patient as required.

Provides clear and thorough explanation of procedures to patients.

Positions patients, applies compression, and sets technical factors to produce quality images.

Evaluates Mammography images for completeness and technical quality.

Completes a thorough evaluation of a patient’s pertinent medical history and documents in RIS patient exam notes.

Continually observes patient to monitor patient safety and comfort.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Anticipates and provides assistance to accommodate patients having difficulty ambulating.

Kindly and patiently assists clients by answering their questions and helping with their requests.

Completes and ensures distribution of necessary mammography patient communication.

Notifies patients of recall suggestions and assists in scheduling.

Maintains quality assurance in accordance with ACR/MQSA on a daily basis and completes quality assurance reports.

Assists Lead Mammographer with ACR and MQSA accreditations.

Responsible for scheduling preventative maintenance of the equipment and arranging with the service engineers for accurate problems as they develop

Maintain, and re-stocks various medical modality supplies as needed.

Monitors daily workflow and ensures appointment hours are filled.

Perform exams and assist in other modalities or at front desk when not performing Mammography.

Answers and directs incoming calls in a courteous and professional manner-identifies center and self.

Schedules procedures; assist with clerical functions.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of employed information systems.

Demonstrates enthusiastic commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Communicates with support staff to keep patient flow moving.

Communicates schedule delays with patients and their families.

Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.

Performs other related duties as directed.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, internet software, RIS, and PACS.

Education/Experience:

Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent.

12 months previous experience in diagnostic radiology or other imaging modality.

Certificates and Licenses:

ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology

ARRT certification in Mammography or successfully completion of certification within 12 months of hire.

BLS certification.
