Job Description

Job Purpose:

Mental Health and Outpatient Substance Abuse services are psychological treatment and counseling services offered to individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness and/or substance abuse. Interventions are conducted in a group and individual setting and provided by a mental health professional licensed or authorized by the state to render such services. This position will provide psychosocial assessments, diagnosis, and develop treatment plans for intervention in individual and/or group therapy. The Mental Health & Substance Abuse Counselor will collaborate in a multidisciplinary professional team.

Abilities

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and motivated to create.

· Team oriented cooperation in Multidisciplinary activities.

· Must be willing to attend cultural sensitivity training in HIV/AIDS.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

· Two years’ experience in HIV/AIDS or other catastrophic illness (preferred)

· Experience in substance abuse intakes, interventions, and community referrals.

· Experience with multicultural and diverse populations.

· Experience in group, individual, family and couple counseling settings.

· Experience with confidentiality, authorizations, and release of PHI

· Experience in client record management

· Experience in substance abuse evidence-based intervention with groups

· Experience in community outreach for referrals

· Experience with the LGBTQ+ a plus

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

· Computer literate; prefer experience with MS Office products and counseling-based software.

Licenses/Certificates:

· Masters degree level from an accredited institution.

· Current Texas license as a professional counselor (LPC) will consider LPC-A)

· Training in non-violent crisis intervention/management of aggressive behavior preferred or equivalent.

Other:

Ability to drive and have access to a car; maintain valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
