Trinity Industries is searching for a Weld Engineering Manager to join the Freightcar Weld Engineering Group. This position can be located in Dallas, TX.

This position places a critical role within the Weld Engineering Group by supporting the weld engineering management system elements, verifies implementation and compliance to industry codes, internal weld standards and procedures. Works closely with design, quality functions and operations to mitigate weld related issues and continuously improve weld systems. Designs and implements on the job training programs to improve safety, quality and efficiency on manufacturing operations. Supports and or leads welding automation projects aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving quality in the welding process. This may involve researching, evaluating, and implementing automated welding technologies such as robotic welding systems or advanced welding processes.

What the position does:

· Provides technical support to manufacturing and maintenance operations, parts and components and mobile repair units

· Ensures all welding engineering management system elements are successfully implemented throughout the company

· Develops and implements On the Job Training programs to improve safety, quality and efficiency of manufacturing and maintenance operations

· Supports manufacturing sites in preparation for and during internal/external compliance audits

· Develops and implements plans to mitigate issues and align support to meet business strategic initiatives

· Identifies cost improvement opportunities and develops and implements plans to achieve such improvements in an efficient manner

· Support site welding management leaders during welder training ramp ups

· Ensure compliance of Welding management system

· Provide technical support and training when needed

· Assess people, processes and recommend improvements, solutions

· Provide weld joint design and drawing review to Design Engineers

· Qualify PQRs and write, review, and approve WPS

· Improve, sustain processes with Process Validation Audits

· Review, approve Supplier PQR, WPS, and WQTR

· Ensures that welding automation projects align with the weld management system. This includes verifying that automated processes comply with industry codes, internal standards, and procedures, as well as overseeing the integration of automation solutions into existing workflows.

· Works closely with external vendors to design, develop, and implement automated welding solutions. This collaboration may involve providing technical expertise on welding processes and requirements, as well as facilitating communication between different departments involved in the project.

· Designs and delivers training programs to educate operators, welding technicians and maintenance personnel on how to operate and maintain automated welding equipment safely and effectively. Additionally, providing ongoing support and troubleshooting assistance to ensure smooth operation of automated systems.

What you'll need:

Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or related field. (Metallurgical and/or mechanical with welding automation focus)

Cross cultural, bilingual (English, Spanish) experience is preferred

10 years of relevant work experience

Deep welding knowledge in key services areas (CWI, Metallurgy, Process, Design, Failure Analysis)

SAW, FCAW, GMAW

Heavy fabrication (pressure vessel, construction, off-road equipment) is a plus

Multi-site, cross functional organization. (Ability to coordinate and engage resources from different disciplines and locations to support business needs.)

Leading/managing welding projects

Applied use of Lean Six Sigma tools
