Overview:

Abacus Technology is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide technical support and guidance for the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB). This is a full-time position that can be on-site, hybrid, or remote.

Responsibilities:

Provides expert level consulting, coordinates, and controls all software updates to SAN environment.

Leads the Engineering team in enhancing or changing SAN automated deployment process.

Respond to system outages or critical events in a timely manner with a sense of urgency.

Direct and mentor Systems Engineers on the technical aspects of security best practices and procedures throughout the infrastructure, platform, and networks.

Configure, customize, manage, and analyze all alerting, monitoring, and logging systems.

Design and conduct load tests and upgrades on critical servers and adjust as needed.

Design and coordinate DNS services for all network connected assets.

Ensure that infrastructure costs remain within budget and implement cost savings where appropriate.

Lead and coordinate Systems Engineers through SAN deployments, technical escalations, procedures, and technical tasks.

Research, design, and document road maps for upgrades and adoption of new network technologies.

Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.

Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, advise, and mentor the team to implement those fixes.

Create and update network diagrams and device configurations.

Assist with project planning and implementation for all technical projects conducted in operations.

Assist IT staff with broad range of complex computer application problems, server issues, virtualization, and SAN issues, networking issues, security issues and critical problem resolution.

Provide technical review of documents standard operating procedures and protocols.

Manage Microsoft Windows Servers and VM Environments.

Maintain Active Directory and GPO account management.

Conduct capacity analysis and ensure optimal performance of network infrastructure.

Mentor Systems Engineers and provide cross-training to ensure there are no single points of failure.

Qualifications:

15 years experience providing Tier 1, 2 and 3 level support for network and storage solutions and technologies. Associate’s degree in a related field desired. Must hold one of the following certifications: MCSA, MCSE, and/or VCP. Experience with Storage Array Network (SAN) solutions including Dell EMC or equivalent, with multi-tiered storage systems including SAN and NAS arrays. Experience in SAN Fabric maintenance, including array and fiber switch administration – preferably with Dell EMC and Cisco Fabric switches. Experience in monitoring and providing systems usage statistics for use in overall capacity planning. Experience in the enterprise-level computing platforms involving virtualization, distribution, and high availability, involving VMware. Experience maintaining enterprise-level backup environments – preferably with Microsoft DPM and/or CommVault backup solution. Experience focusing on Storage and Backup and Recovery for Disaster Recovery capabilities as well as general restore abilities, and experience in creating backup jobs, maintain backups and data restore. Experience in Microsoft Active Directory, CIFS, Permissions and experience in managing Microsoft server (Windows 2008, 2012). Must be a US citizen.
