In this role, a Medical Assistant is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician. Such services can involve therapeutic and/or diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities include:
Triage, conduct vitals
Experience administering vaccinations and immunizations
Complete paperwork and forms
Check schedules and organize patient flow
Accompany patients to exam/procedure room
Assist patients as needed
Prepare room for exam
Collect patient history
Perform screenings per provider guidelines
Assist physicians/nurses with various procedures
Chart; relay instructions to patients/families
Answer calls
Send/receive patient medical records
Obtain lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc
Complete forms/requisitions as needed
Schedule appointments
Insurance coverage verification
Manage and update charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately
Prescription Refills
Ordering, sorting, storing supplies
Restock exam/procedure room
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have a current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training
Experience working in a community health setting
Position requires completion of a certified/registered program for medical assistants that are recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA)
Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility
Preferred Qualifications
Considerable skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system
General working knowledge of PC: Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, and EPIC
Computerized appointment scheduling experience
Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment
Considerable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers and physicians
Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting and transporting supplies and instruments
