Job Description:

McDonald’s is seeking a Sr. Director of Federal Government & Diplomatic Relations. Part of the Global Impact function and reporting to the VP of Federal GR & Global Policy, a successful candidate will be a key government relations representative for McDonald’s partners in Washington, DC.

A successful candidate will lead a dynamic team of government relations professionals and consultants to develop and implement consistent, pro-active engagements with federal government agencies and officials, diplomats, and internal/external team members across multiple relevant issue areas (e.g. franchising, business operations, tax/finances, workforce, sustainability, agriculture, supply chain, technology, food, nutrition, etc.) that impact the McDonald’s System.

Responsibilities

+ Develop and implement consistent, pro-active and innovative advocacy and engagement strategies to advance McDonald’s priorities at all levels of executive, legislative and regulatory agencies of the federal government, diplomatic corps, trade associations and third-party collaborators.

+ Effectively advocate to promote and protect McDonald’s business and strengthen our reputation across people, planet, economic and community impact pillars.

+ Lead a dynamic team of five GR professionals and consultants by fostering a collaborative work environment, provide guidance and ensure team success.

+ Partner with U.S. State and Global government relations team and other relevant functions (e.g. legal, people, sustainability, communications, tax, operations, franchising, development, supply chain, etc.) and subject matter experts to advance McDonald’s business and reputational objectives.

+ Maintain and develop sophisticated political and policy network, identify key external partners, build and manage coalitions, and integrate innovative tools and technologies into advocacy campaigns.

+ Monitor policy developments, assess business and reputational impact, provide timely analysis and recommendations to internal team members, and develop appropriate activities and responses.

+ Develop issue, activity, and progress tracking methodology to enable consistent reporting.

+ Ensure compliance with relevant laws, rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study (advanced degree welcome).

+ 15+ years of comprehensive federal government and private sector experience required in a relevant role (e.g. government relations, public affairs, etc.) with measurable successes.

+ Demonstrated and successful leadership, team management, internal/external partner engagement, and consultant management capabilities.

+ Thorough understanding of the legislative, regulatory and advocacy processes.

+ Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, broad perspective, problem-solving, negotiation, written and verbal delivery skills.

+ Ability to implement strategy in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously to deliver tangible results.

+ Familiarity with complex business functions, franchising, and key industry collaborators is strongly preferred.
