The Pre-Press and Print Workflow Manager will work at our Salt Lake City facility (Spaceship) and is crucial in the expansion of Calyx’s core operations and products. As a leader in the production environment, this individual is responsible for the management of all pre-press activity for Calyx: ensuring customer-supplied artwork is turned into a press ready product. To succeed in this role, they must have a passion for innovative creative and printing technologies. This individual will manage pre-press technicians in our facility, and a ticket entry clerk. They will oversee continuous improvement in processes, acting as the proof engine for our enterprise customers and customer portal. This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and mentor pre-press, job ticket entry and estimating resources, determining the appropriate assignment of work
Own all pre-production artwork workflow processes from when artwork is received from customer until jobs are sent to production
Help with interdepartmental communication regarding order status through the pre-press function
Oversee all software supporting prepress and ensure it correctly integrates with connected systems
Provide business requirements to support the evolution of our technology, pre-press automation software and customer portal within this function
Collaborate with key stakeholders in the manufacturing facility and cross functionally across the company to ensure key metrics are achieved
As needed, will be responsible in supporting daily pre-press functions to support the execution of our business; this includes but is not limited to the following:
Evaluate (pre-flight), customer supplied graphics files, and compare pre-flight findings to identified specifications from corresponding prep memos
Create proofs and submit approval documentation
Create imposed layouts and project folders and manage project file content
Manipulate files to match specifications
File output to rip
Confirm graphics to die line fit and evaluate graphic orientation to die orientation
Create, manipulate and attach variable data files to artwork
Vision inspection system support
Die & Plate management
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree preferred
5+ years of direct professional experience
Print packaging experience required
Strong technical aptitude and proven analytical skills
Proficiency in one or more design programs (ie. Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign etc)
Strong organizational skills
Project Management experience a plus
Strong desire to learn new technology and automation processes
Experience with Hybrid, ESKO, Label Traxx, CERM or other print packaging software preferred
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Strong ability to excel and contribute in cross functional teams
Mentorship mentality for all direct reports
Attention to detail in creative files and process adherence
Creative problem solver with a positive attitude
