The Senior Buyer is responsible for the development and ownership of the strategic sourcing strategy for assigned materials and/or services. This individual is responsible for overall supplier performance with respect to cost, quality, delivery, service and innovation; manages supplier relationships and is responsible for negotiations; and prepares bid packages and evaluates supplier quotations and services to determine most competitive solution based upon total cost of ownership. The Senior Buyer applies experience in a variety of purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures; and relies on experience and judgment to resolve problems and communicate effectively while leading complex sourcing projects and supplier performance reviews.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop sources and obtain information from suppliers concerning product and/or service specifications, price, delivery dates, etc. and ensures all applicable data is current with supplier

Interact regularly with technically-oriented internal and external customers to communicate and/or negotiate complex issues

Understand technical drawings and possess the ability to review coordinating requirements with Engineering and the supplier

Represent the company as the POC for suppliers

Solicit proposals, conduct bid evaluations, evaluate costs, negotiate optimum delivery schedules and ensure the best combination of price, quantity discount, product quality, standard terms and conditions, and where appropriate, establishes long term agreements such as Blanket Purchase Agreements

Communicate with User departments such as Engineering, Quality Assurance, Program Management, Product Line and Manufacturing to ensure requirements are met

Prepare definitive purchase orders, including terms and conditions, make awards, and administer contracts with suppliers within budgetary limitations

Responsible for program reviews. Monitor supplier performance, and prepare reports and other records pertaining to the items or services purchased, cost, delivery, product or service performance, supplier performance and/or inventories, as applicable

Resolve problems related to technical issues, quality, delivery, receiving and payment to the supplier

Determine the source of any problems and use independent judgment to take appropriate corrective action including escalating to Management

Evaluate bill of materials provided by Engineering group and ensure that all items are purchased at the required quality level and optimal price

Ensure that levels of inventory items purchased are maintained at optimal levels

Ensure that shipments are scheduled to meet production needs and tracks as necessary

Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

General education in Business classes

6+ years of experience working in a similar role

Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and various purchasing program modules

Benefits

The starting pay range for this position is $74,000 to $93,000 per year however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
