We are Robosource, and we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our fast-growing business. Founded in 2015 to raise funds for a VEX Robotics Competition community team, we've evolved into a leading provider of products that support educational robotics and a trusted distributor of plastic materials for consumer and commercial use. Continuing our growth, we are expanding our development projects in industrial automation and consumer products.

In your role as a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the development of products for consumer applications, robotics education, and industrial automation systems. From concept to manufacture and distribution, you will analyze, design, and develop products. Taking on this position will give you the opportunity to establish, shape, and manage the engineering department.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the development of products for consumer applications, robotics education, and industrial automation systems.
Assume responsibility for the overall mechanical design of a product, from the initial idea through to prototype testing and manufacturing:
a) Design products, including individual components and assemblies, which will be manufactured using injection molding, sheet metal, steel assemblies, and other processes. Work with external manufacturers and perform some light assembly in-house
b) Design to optimize manufacturing costs and manufacturability
c) Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing and quality control
Prototype and test working models that include mechanical, electrical, and electronic components in collaboration with the team
Perform mechanical analysis and improvement of both existing and in-development products
Interact with international production facilities during the product development and prototyping process.
Establish new engineering processes and produce documentation for them
Provide support for in-house light manufacturing, assembly, and packaging:
Develop tools and processes for production
Work with staff to train, analyze, and improve production processes
Support customer usage and experience of products, including documentation and instructions
Mentor and manage engineering interns
Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor of Science in Robotics, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in product design or mechanical engineering
Experience and knowledge of educational robotics is required
Experience in electrical engineering, mechatronics, and controls is a plus
Extensive experience with various manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal, outsourced manufacturing, etc.
A broad understanding of engineering principles and the ability to find and develop practical and cost-effective design solutions
Ability to analyze and design for manufacture
An in-depth understanding of 3D modeling and drafting of components and assemblies using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
A strong mechanical aptitude, as well as a desire to get hands-on.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Capacity to train and manage engineering interns and other engineers
Must be a US citizen or legally authorized to work in the US as a permanent resident
