Cadence Inc., located in Staunton, Virginia is currently hiring for a Tech I in our CNC Sharpening Cell on 1st shift.

The selected individual will work four days per week on 1st shift-Monday-Thursday from 5:00am-3:00pm + necessary overtime.

What will you do as a Tech I in our CNC Sharpening Cell? As a Tech I, you will produce a variety of products through the use of CNC (computer-numeric-control) manufacturing machinery. Cadence, VA manufactures medical and industrial blades. With minimal supervision sets up the necessary tools, machines, and programs to produce, modify and/or repair production parts within required tolerances. Trains others to use machine shop equipment and inspects their work for accuracy and quality as directed. Maintains accurate production documentation. Makes recommended changes to improve production. This position supports meeting on-time-delivery requirements from the CNC sharpening cell. During the first 6-12 months on the job, the selected candidate can expect to experience operation of proprietary CNC equipment, reading CNC programming as well as CNC code.

Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge at the level of a Tech I includes understanding of basic machine shop principles and equipment. Having moderate milling, turning and grinding experience will be beneficial to perform this work successfully. Normally, 3 years of diverse industrial machine shop experience is desired. A four year apprenticeship program in Machining would be ideal for this position. Some other combination of training, experience and ability may provide an acceptable equivalent to the above.

Responsibilities:

Reviews work orders and prints to ensure documentation is accurate and complete.

Sets up CNC machines with the appropriate program, tooling and parameter requirements to meet all specifications.

Maintains assigned workstation by following good 6S practices.

Responsible for filling out inspection reports including first part, getting buddy check, interval checks and last part check. Also, responsible for maintaining quality data-bases if required.

Responsible for maintaining:

Coolant and positioning. Swarf removal from machines as needed.

Leaks that could cause slip/fall conditions - must be fixed or reported immediately.

Tools and tooling. Follow lean/Kan Ban principles to maintain proper levels of expendable tooling. Return gages keep station tools in good working order.

Program data sheets, Q.C. reports, final program storage procedures.

Trains other employees to use machine shop equipment as directed by supervisor.

Performs first article inspection of parts, buddy checks (if required). May also assist co-workers when necessary and notifies supervisor if it will take either party off scheduled task timelines.

Provides support to members of the department to follow established methods.

Maintains area safety and good housekeeping. Follows work flow in the machine shop.

Understands the quality objectives for the organization and contributes to continual improvement.

Must Haves:

CNC Setup Experience

Proficient Computer Skills

Proficient with using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, vision systems)

Strong Math skills (proficiency with decimals required)

Must be able to work with shifting priorities and move from task to task throughout the day as needed.

Must have the patience and ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.

Good verbal and written communication skills are needed for all aspects of this job

Blueprint reading experience

Strong mechanical and troubleshooting ability

Ability to be decisive under minimal supervision

Nice to have skills

CNC machining experience or higher level CNC operation

Higher level measuring experience

Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances

CAD

Journeyman’s Machinist Card

Additional Expectations:

Proficiency in using Windows-based computer programs

Cadence reserves the right to fill the position as a Tech I or Operator III depending on the qualifications and skill set of the candidate pool and business needs.
