Job Summary: Provides in-patient psychiatric nursing care to all clients in crisis with the goal of stabilization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
DIRECT NURSING / CLIENT CARE
Administer medication.
Educate clients on medication.
Intervene verbally and/or physically with clients who are out of control.
Lead Hygiene – HIV/AIDS – Nutrition – Substance Abuse Groups, etc.
Assist clients with activities of daily living.
Answering questions from families and involve families in treatment when feasible, and promote wellness within the family unit.
Complete nursing physical assessment on each client.
One-to-one care, as indicated.
Monitor restraints, suicide and homicide precautions, close observations and timeouts, etc., and follow all standards.
Place client on 24 hour nursing precautions, as needed.
Monitor special diets.
Draw blood and/or collect other laboratory specimen samples.
Minor wound care as indicated.
Assess clients’ somatic complaints.
Evaluate medical emergencies
Team meeting with staff.
Admit clients to CSU – Administrative admission.
Develop treatment plans with clients.
Monitor client charts for doctors’ orders and accuracy reviews.
Write progress notes on clients’ symptoms, activities, or significant behaviors.
Initiate and record restraint and seclusion process.
Record medications and side effects or lack thereof.
Minimum Qualifications:
RN Licensed in Florida
Must be knowledgeable in areas of client rights, Baker Act, confidentiality regulations, and abuse regulations.
Knowledge of medications and side effects; risk of addiction, bloodborne pathogens, OSHA Standards.
1 year experience in Psychiatric Nursing
