BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst. Responsibilities involve state tax compliance, state aspects of the income tax provision, tax credits & incentives, tax research and planning projects, and audit activity. The role will require regular contact with accounting, treasury, finance and other personnel across the Company. The individual will be part of a domestic tax team and it will be necessary to exercise initiative and project management skills in connection with tax compliance and planning projects.

Responsibilities

State income tax compliance including preparation of returns (workpapers, forms, statements and disclosures), research into applicable tax return positions, and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Prepare/review components of the state income tax provision, including research around the tax accounting treatment of various transactions; uncertain tax position documentation; use of OTP; and compliance with SOX protocols.

Federal and state tax credits and incentives, including identification and evaluation of potential incentives, as well as data gathering and computations necessary to apply for and claim applicable credits & incentives.

Demonstrate proficiency in gathering data from internal systems, including SAP, and preparing complex Excel-based tax models with tax technical analysis and insight.

Support process improvement initiatives.

Present to management on relevant technical developments.

Respond to Information Document Requests as part of state income tax audits and provide analysis to support tax positions on audit, as needed.

Ongoing communication with Accounting, Legal and Treasury groups regarding various tax matters will be required.

Participate in special projects, as applicable.

Critical Success Factors

Technical Skills: Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Tax. Master’s degree in Taxation or CPA strongly preferred. 3+ years of tax experience with a “Big 4” CPA firm and/or large multinational company. Working knowledge of federal and state income tax concepts and related compliance issues. Experience analyzing business transactions and determining the tax consequences. Working knowledge of accounting theory to ascertain potential tax ramifications of business transactions. Experience with HFM, SAP, OneSource (OTP/OIT), SAP Fixed Asset experience, a plus.

Communication Skills: Effectively communicates with and engages various levels of the organization verbally and in writing; produces clear, understandable documentation. This role involves working with a diverse and global team of tax professionals and includes regular communications with individuals outside of the tax department, including Treasury, Legal, Accounting and the Controllership.

Management of Resources: Allocates time and resources efficiently; continually seeks ways to improve individual/team efficiency. Demonstrates ability to be effective within a matrix environment. Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and take ownership of projects, performing job responsibilities with strong attention to detail.

Business & Organization Knowledge: Prioritizes understanding the BJ’s business and the impact of business decisions on tax and vice versa.

Change Management: Exhibits an assertive personality with a strong bias for action; results oriented; tackles tough problems with firm deadlines.
