Our Client, CenDek Railings, located in beautiful Summerland, British Columbia, is a long-established and leading manufacturer of aluminum hand and guardrails for the retail and contractor market in residential and commercial construction. Over the past 20 years of doing business, they have come to represent an aluminum railing product that is associated with style, safety, and durability. Their recent move into a new facility has prompted new growth as they have made exciting new changes to their manufacturing process, with new equipment, modern powder coating techniques and team members that are excited to embrace progress, increasing their capacity to provide customers with a timely and highly sought after product. Utilizing robotics, and lean manufacturing initiatives to deliver a quality product in a timely fashion, CenDek is committed to providing the highest level of personal service and quality product available. Regardless of the project size, they detail each job individually to ensure that the railing is exactly what the customer envisioned for their project.

They are currently looking to add a Mechanical Designer (Manufacturing) to join their growing organization. Reporting to the Lead Engineer & Plant Manager, you will be responsible for research and development, staying updated on industry trends and building codes, and innovating new products. The ideal candidate is highly detailed orientated, quality focused, professional, personable, and self-motivated and ready to propel CenDek to the next level.

Responsibilities will include:

Perform full lifecycle product development (preliminary, design, prototype testing, manufacturing, and implementation;

Play a vital role in the research and development team, actively contributing to the creation of new innovative products and continuous improvements of current railing components in a timely and efficient manner while keeping liability and safety at the forefront;

Conduct live and simulated structural stress testing of railing systems and components in preparation for National and International Building Code compliance along with investigative research and development of new products;

Assist in lean manufacturing initiatives; including workflow investigations, plant modifications and jig and fixture design, selecting and implementing new equipment and improving existing equipment;

Provide clear and detailed fabrication and packaging drawings for new concepts or modifications to existing practices;

Assist and educate Customer Service and Sales team on design details and building code specifications;

Collaborate with the manufacturing team to address product issues and ensure quality control;

Troubleshoot machinery and equipment on the plant floor;

Work with railing distributors/installers on design-related concerns and ease of installation issues;

Additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Manufacturing Engineering or Technologist diploma;

Experience in manufacturing will be considered an asset;

Solidworks 3D experience is required. Experience with SolidWorks simulation, Photo view 360, Composer, and PDM would be an asset;

Some AutoCAD experience is preferred but not mandatory;

Strong attention to detail and quality focused;

Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision;

Manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently, demonstrating problem solving skills and adapting to changing timelines;

Ability to use shop tools for a hands-on approach to designing new components/prototypes and improving current designs;

Create, read, and interpret structural and architectural drawings;

Strong verbal and written communication skills, professional, personable, outgoing, and highly self-motivated, as well as technically competent;

Excellent prioritizing, time management and organizational skills;

Extensive experience using MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook);

Strong relationship skills and openness to feedback;

Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative leadership style;

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

This is a full-time opportunity (Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 4:00PM) with occasional work from home opportunities, accompanied by a generous compensation package. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience.
