Graduate Coordinator for Operations and Reporting

Summary/Objective:

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) is seeking a graduate student to provide intentional and structural support for the Center for Diversity & Inclusion in the Operational Graduate Coordinator. The Operational Graduate Coordinator position is a primary contact for implementing processes and practices across CDI. Specifically, the duties of the Operations Graduate Coordinator include formulating strategy, improving performance, procuring materials and resources for CDI, and securing compliance.

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion is looking for a collaborative team player interested in enhancing the experience of all students, understanding the campus climate, and partnering intentionally with campus partners and administrative offices to tell to cultivate and create spaces that allows students to engage with one another through dialogue in a meaningful and community driven manner.

Required Education & Experience:

The Graduate Coordinator for Operations and Reporting must have a bachelor’s degree and currently be enrolled in a graduate program at American University. Additionally, they must acknowledge and understand multi-layered topics of identity, including ability, race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc.

Essential Functions:

Support the management of the CDI inbox with other outreach student staff members.

Support the administrative functions of Center’s operations by:

Managing email communications and logistics

Compiling data reports and spreadsheets

Organizing virtual/in person meeting spaces/platforms

Reserving spaces through Event Management System (EMS)

Assist Associate Director for Student Equity, Access, & Retention in purchasing necessary supplies for programs

Provide administrative support during Center programs to admit participants, track attendance, etc.

Provide onboarding support by:

Assist the Associate Director in the recruitment and training of CDI student staff.

Maintain position (job) descriptions.

Coordinating staff schedules, training, and onboarding with Associate Director for Student Equity, Access, & Retention.

Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at CDI student staff team meetings in partnership with the Associate Director for Student Equity, Access, & Retention.

Work in partnership with the Associate Director for Student Equity, Access, & Retention regarding the CDI’s website content and its updates.

Research, benchmark, and assess CDI and other campuses’ educational, support programs, & media efforts.

Other duties as assigned with general office tasks.

Qualifications:

Proven work experience as an operations manager or similar role

Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management

Experience budgeting and forecasting

Excellent communication skills

Leadership ability

“Big picture” thinking to address top-level concerns.

Interpersonal skills to communicate with executives and staff team.

Strong personal and professional judgment

Adaptability to respond quickly to a shifting reality and adjust initiatives and priorities.

Organizational skills and the flexibility to jump from priority to priority.

Problem-solving skills.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is an in person (non-hybrid) position that can work up to 20 hours (a week).

Salary Range: $18.10/hour

Required Education and Experience:

Open to all graduate students who are enrolled in an American University degree program for the 2024-2025 academic year. As a note, there are no tuition benefits available for this position.
