Engineer - Beverage Pasteurizers and Bottle Washers

Job Description

The primary job function of the Engineering Product Specialist – Tunnel Pasteurizers & Bottle Washer is to design and support KHS equipment for bottle washer, tunnel pasteurizer, warmers, re-coolers and create washers. The Engineering Specialist will work closely with customers and project management colleagues in planning or tunnel pasteurizers in complete lines, preparing customer presentations and supporting KHS equipment that has been deployed to the field.

REPORTS TO: Reports to the Product Center Leader and KHS USA designated Engineering Manager

ESSENTIAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs components for equipment that moves and processes fluids through a beverage or food system from raw ingredients to final packaging applying knowledge of mechanical and chemical engineering; involves heating, cooling, blending with gases and other materials, and filling into a container.

Reads, creates and interprets technical drawings, schematics, process flow diagrams and computer generated reports.

Determines the appropriate third party components appropriate for the application such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, instrumentation; designs and/or integrates the components for complex processing systems, involving pipes, fittings, components and tanks to Food & Drug Administration requirements

Follows KHS USA processes and procedures to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications; integrates European and American standards.

Interacts with production to verify and test equipment; provides technical assistance and support to sales, service, and purchasing as directed; supports parts sales by identifying correct replacement parts.

Prior to shipment, verifies performance of equipment to meet customer needs

Troubleshoots performance issues in the field with field service and the customer’s technical representatives; analyzes KHS components, determines if equipment is functioning properly; takes action needed to ensure proper functioning.

May use computer aided design tools to create drawings, using the enterprise resource planning system to maintain Bill of Materials, processing Engineering Change Orders and maintaining drawing database.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May provide indirect leadership, supervision/coordination of KHS assembly personnel, contractors or consultants.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The Engineering Specialist will be responsible for Machine design and preparation of technical data and specifications, while considering thermodynamic calculations for bottle washer, tunnel pasteurizer, warmers, re-coolers and crate washers.

•BS Engineering or acquired experience in food packaging.

•Several years of experience in beverage market with some experience with tunnel pasteurizers.

•Willingness to travel for work.

•SAP knowledge and good skills in MS Office are desirable

•Analytical thinking to solve technical tasks

•Strong customer orientation and confident, friendly demeanor

Mastery of MS Office applications, ability to demonstrate proficiency within reasonable period of time in KHS USA ERP system., proficiency in dimensioning mechanical parts and assemblies in AutoCAD, Solidworks (WI), Inventor or equivalent CADD applications. Proficiency with material sciences (WI) and basic electrical systems. Familiarity with ERP systems, such as SAP is desired.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

BS, more than 3 years’ experience engineering processing equipment in a food or beverage packaging/processing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires up to 50% travel; valid passport and motor vehicle license are required.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees or customers.
