Hours: Mon – Fri, 8am – 5pm in office

Location: San Antonio, TX; some travel required

Summary

This position is responsible for the accounting and internal control activities of Safari Club International (SCI) and Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF). Establishes system controls for financial management, budget, and accounting.

All applicants should demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, hunting as an essential part of biologically sound and ethically responsible international wildlife management. The ideal candidate will have an existing knowledge of SCI’s current programs and mission and be passionate about hunter’s rights.

Responsibilities

Establishes system controls for financial management, budget, and accounting. Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.

Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, capital, revenues, and expenses and prepares balance sheets, revenue and expense statements, various financial and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.

Oversees the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses, and insurance records.

Directs and participates in cost and statistical analyses and rate studies to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes.

Facilitates and coordinates annual financial statement audit by independent auditors including preparation of schedule for external audit review and audited financial statements. Serves as the primary liaison to the Audit Committee; schedules meetings, presents information, and takes minutes.

Supervises and directs the accounting activities of SCI-PAC and controls accurate and timely reporting to Federal Election Commission (“FEC”) and Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”). Prepares and files information returns and various tax returns with applicable governmental agencies, including forms 990 for both SCI and SCIF.

Manages support staff; interviews, makes hiring decisions, orients/trains employees, plans, assigns, and directs work. In partnership with Human Resources, counsels employees on disciplinary and performance issues. Addresses employee development, recognition, complaints and concerns

Creates and supports an open communication culture. Conduct regular team meetings; continually update team on current goals and best practices, answer questions, and help team with new issues. Responsible for communicating departmental/procedural updates.

Monitor, evaluate, and document team and individual performance including quality of work and compliance; set clear expectations, goals and deadlines for the department. Motivate team members by recognizing high performance and encourage creative thinking.

Prepare your team for future challenges by identifying and promoting new training. Set training standards for all new hires.

Engages in successional planning so as to ensure continuity of SCI’s capabilities in this area.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Attends meetings, conventions, trade shows, and other events as appropriate.

Qualifications

The position requires a license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related area and five years of experience in an accounting/finance supervisory role.

Experience with Non-profits preferred

Experience in leadership role required

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate.

Proven analytical skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software, to include OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams with an ability to become familiar with SCI-specific programs and software.

Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered.
