Overview:

Kimley-Horn and Associates (KHA), a national consulting firm, is looking to hire a Strategic Communications & Outreach professional to be part of our Salt Lake City, Utah (UT) team! This position is full-time and requires occasional on-call availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week for telephone calls and/or emails. Some night or weekend work may be required as needed. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to use and expand their skills and experience in strategic communication, public involvement, project coordination, business development, and event planning. This is not a remote position.

What we do: KHA Strategic Communications & Outreach Team contracts with transportation agencies, local governments, private clients, and internal KHA disciplines providing communication and outreach services. We design and implement project specific engagement and communication plans based on the needs of the project utilizing a variety of standard and virtual tools. KHA also plans several transportation related events, conferences, and workshops.

Responsibilities:

May supervise or coordinate work of junior team members.

Building and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients.

Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of projects.

Conduct research and gather information for multiple projects.

Set up project contact information using approved branding and style.

Produce and maintain various stakeholder databases.

Distribute information to stakeholders—via telephone, email, and in person.

Monitor and prepare responses to public inquiries.

Create tactical media—including email, fliers, press releases, presentations, newsletters, and announcements.

The ability to self-check for quality as part of our QC process.

Create, edit and produce public involvement documents and social media content

Support the development and facilitation of events, including public open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, conferences, one-on-one meetings, stakeholder meetings, and other public events.

Prepare meeting minutes and distribute summaries of action items.

Develop reports, documents, and spreadsheets using Microsoft Suite applications.

Balance and manage multiple tasks and priorities with ease.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the KHA Strategic Communications & Outreach Team.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent

1+ years of customer service experience

Excellent people skills including the ability to communicate clearly, listening and summarizing information, documenting interactions, and problem-solve or reduce conflicts when possible

Customer service mindset.

Ability to interface with a variety of clients and the public.

Be able to communicate effectively in written and oral formats including speaking with people one-on-one or in large groups.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Flexibility to periodically work outside regular working hours and travel, as required for business needs.

Must have a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and insurance (we reimburse mileage).

Preferred Qualifications:

Detail oriented and enthusiastic with demonstratable knowledge of and ability to implement various public involvement techniques.

Ability to understand and explain technical information to a variety of audiences, often in high-profile situations.

Ability to complete complex work assignments on schedule, with limited supervision.

Public outreach experience and knowledge of the transportation industry.

Graphic design experience is a plus.

Experience with Adobe CC or other graphics program is a plus.
