Overview:
Located at Burns Harbor, IN, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of our Slag Granulation team and facility, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality standards are met on each shift.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of shift personnel to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the Granulation Facility
Monitor production process of Cement Slag Granulation, equipment performance, and quality control measures to ensure adherence to standards and specifications
Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain continuous production flow
Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety regulations
Train, mentor, and provide guidance to shift staff to enhance their skills and performance
Collaborate with other departments, such as safety and quality assurance, to optimize production processes and resolve cross-functional issues
Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures
Implement and enforce safety protocols, including conducting safety meetings, promoting awareness, and investigating incidents or accidents
Participate in shift handovers, communicating key information and priorities to incoming supervisors and team members
Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and operational excellence
Participate in the selection of operational staff
Maintain Relationship with Cleveland Clifs

Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in an industrial environment
Experience:
3-5 years prior experience in a supervisory role
Proven experience within the cement manufacturing industry, with specific knowledge of blast furnace operations preferred
Strong technical aptitude and understanding of cement production processes, equipment, and machinery
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and manage a diverse team
Solid problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and hands-on approach to addressing operational challenges
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
Working Conditions:
Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
Operation within a fast-paced environment
Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratories
Must be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Must be able to stand and move about job sites with uneven and unpaved ground while managing concrete delivery onsite
