Sensors Engineering Manager:

We are looking for an experienced leader to drive innovation in our Sensors group. Will be responsible for leading system modeling and Optical Engineering for the Engineering department. Responsible for interaction with customers and Business Development on optical system needs as well as analysis, design, integration, and test of all optical systems. Responsibilities include maintaining the Optics Lab and supporting Manufacturing’s optical engineering needs.

Performance Objectives:

Fosters functional excellence and core competence for optical technologies

Develops system models, deep technology understanding, and technology partner roadmaps

Adopts common processes and best tools for development

Conceives most innovative architectural approaches to address customer applications

Determines best approach on system performance and cost tradeoffs

Develops critical technology partner relationships

Engages technology partners at roadmap level to address customer applications

Understands technology partner cost drivers to balance best approaches to meeting required performance

Collaborates with partner technologies to create long-term customer value

Partners closely with Supply Chain to develop multiple partner options for managing overall system costs

Develops IMINT technologies to deliver solutions to customer requirements and applications

Extends L3 industry leading EO/IR technology roadmap

Works across L3 enterprise and with external partners on Radar, LIDAR, and similar technologies

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises staff. Including but not limited to interviewing, hiring and training employees; mentoring and coaching to enhance employee professional development; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving interpersonal conflicts between employees.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline with 9+ years of professional relevant experience, OR, Master’s Degree in Engineering/Business Administration Discipline with 7+ years of professional relevant experience.

Advanced knowledge of many areas of Optical Engineering, typically has an advanced degree in Optical Engineering or similar discipline

Advanced knowledge of optical design codes (Zemax, Code V, etc.)

Advanced knowledge of Optical Metrology (Interferometers, image quality metrics, alignment and test techniques, etc.)

Prior experience leading teams

Active US DOD Secret or above clearance.

Pre-employment federal level drug screening and background checks are standard

Competencies/Skills/Experience:

Working knowledge of sensor technologies, requirements and applications

Broad knowledge of all relevant engineering disciplines

Creating and executing technical plans including schedules and budgets

Creating/designing systems to meet customer requirements by working directly with external and internal customers

Working across the L3 enterprise to improve product offerings to customers

Working knowledge of competitive technology and products

Managing resources to satisfy external and internal customer requirements

Demonstrate capability to lead a cross-functional/cross-divisional engineering team to accomplish technical tasks

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to make complex decisions with sparse data

ADA Requirements:

Some repetitive motion activities

Visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information

Able to use a computer/keyboard for extended periods of time

May be required to lift up to 50 lbs, with assistance

Able to use office & test equipment and computers/peripherals in a standard office & computer lab environment

Fast paced, schedule-driven environment; Some stress related to making decisions with ambiguous information

Willing and able to work extended hours when necessary – periodic travel required
