Our research laboratory is dedicated to an interdisciplinary research programme that bridges micro-/nanotechnology and functional materials with MEMS and robotics technology at small scales. We are currently looking for Research Assistant(s) that will focus on the laboratory’s current automation system for pathogen detection and help turn the prototype to a commercial system. The group has tight collaboration with the Institute of Digestive Disease (IDD) and the Department of Microbiology of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s, a Master’s or a Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines; (ii) experience in mechanical CAD (in SolidWorks) and prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, etc.) with strong hands-on skills; (iii) experience in the development of instrumentation, regulatory compliance, product realization, and/or related industrial experience; (iv) ability to work in a fast-paced environment; (v) ability to communicate well with co-workers and external parties; and (vi) ability to work independently without micromanagement. Programming experience in MATLAB and LabView is a plus but not required. Knowledge of magnetics, optics, industrial design, QMS, and GMP will be advantageous

The appointee(s) will work with the research team and clinical collaborators for further R&D of the technology and clinical trials. He/She will be responsible for (a) developing new features for the prototype while working with the clinical team; (b) modifying the current prototype for regulatory compliance; (c) modifying the current prototype for production needs; (d) communication with external parties, e.g. regulatory consultants and manufacturers; and (e) undertaking other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the research team.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to two years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
