Basic Function:
Lead material and process engineering efforts to identify, develop, and execute process improvement projects focused on: Safety, Improved Quality, Process Stability and Cost Improvement, resulting in increased revenues. Implement equipment improvement programs to enhance process improvement, reliability and quality improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Process:
Establish process standard operating conditions by item to ensure a quality product at maximum rates.
Perform Process Capability studies on existing production equipment.
Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures, requesting special service as needed
Provides leadership, coaching and direction to material handlers
Maintain PI&D flow diagrams for material flow through manufacturing facility
Conduct root cause analyzes on major quality and process issues
Process and Equipment Improvements:
Identify, research, and recommend projects that lead to higher quality, cost improvement, additional capacity, process efficiencies (such as improved uptime, scrap rates, production rates, improved tooling, etc), safer operations and facility improvement.
Identify and implement potential automation and labor reduction programs, especially in product packing operations. Goal to reduce labor and improve throughput.
Identify products with below standard performance and assist in specifying the improvement program to achieve at or above standard performance. Identify cost and timing to do so.
Works with vendors to source parts and to substitute OEM parts with more economical options, designing and testing improved parts, updating older systems that are no longer supported by manufacturers to improve equipment functionality

Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.
Participate in safety improvements and hazard evaluations of process
Provide operational support on a 24-hour basis as needed
Required Knowledge and Skills
Strong problem solving skills with good mechanical aptitude
Experience in manufacturing environment utilizing plastic processes (Desired but not a requirement)
Good communication and leadership skills
Ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Ability to work in a fast paced, flexible environment
Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts, continuous improvement, and problem-solving methodologies
Proficient in computer applications
Responsibilities
Create and maintain work instructions and manufacturing specifications
Identify and recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities
Collaborate cross-functionally to facilitate production process and evaluate potential changes
Qualifications
Senior student or Bachelor's degree in either Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
At least 1 - 2 years' of engineering experience
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban and 5S
