Summary of the position:

Looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Supplier Quality Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to tactical to strategic.

Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional proactive relationship between the organization and the quality department for each supplier. This person will be the lead for supplier system, product, and product approvals. In addition, this person will be responsible for working with key suppliers on obtaining complete problem resolution with the goal of zero defects through continuously improving the suppliers’ internal processes.

The position will be located on-site in Michigan City, Indiana.

Duties and responsibilities:

Participates in Supplier Transitions, New Product Development (NPD) and Cost Reduction

Projects with responsibility for successful supplier quality performance.

Conducts supplier quality audits of potential new suppliers and current suppliers: system, process and product.

Approval of supplier PPAP submissions. Completion of PPAP reviews at supplier facility.

Verification of dimensional and material / test certifications.

Reviews FMEAs, Control Plans and other supplier documentation for adequacy.

Responsible for implementation and maintenance of Supplier Quality Metrics.

Communicates supplier performance to the organization and supply chain base by maintaining supplier quality performance data and metrics.

Executes a supplier improvement strategy for the organization.

Measures and drives supplier performance improvements for using applicable quality and continuous improvement tools.

Works with supplier on process evaluation and continuous improvement.

Drives communication with supplier to improve process capability of supplied products.

Leads team with Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier on root cause analysis for quality issues on purchased products.

Trains and mentor suppliers on core Quality Tools: PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP Submission, RRCA, etc.

Executes improvement and maintenance plans for Supplier Quality processes and documents (Supplier Quality Manual, Supplier Assessment, Process Audits, Corrective Action Process, Supplier Assessment Surveillance, etc.).

Travel to assigned suppliers, as necessary (domestic and international). Up to 50% travel.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Engineering or Technical Field is preferred).

• Six Sigma and/or ASQ Certifications are preferred.

Professional experience:

Must have solid understand of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems. Certification as Internal Auditor or Lead Assessor preferred.

Knowledge of GD&T

8D/SCAR

Drive APQP activities at suppliers

Follow up with suppliers in part development in a timely manner

Evaluate PPAP documentation and align with HGAP requirements

Conduct onsite supplier onboarding

Process audits and Product audits and vendor ends

Analyze quality issues at supplier end and work on RCA and corrective actions closure

Constant follow up with suppliers to ensure they support FAI, PPAP, etc. in a timely manner

Knowledge of PPAP, Supplier Audit, 7QC Tool, 8D, SPC, Gauge R&R etc.

Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Supplier Quality Assurance in a manufacturing setting.

Experience in Advanced Quality Planning including familiarity with the AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with suppliers to resolve problems using Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) tools.

Experience with working with corporate and small family-owned suppliers utilizing the appropriate methodologies for RRCA and Continuous Improvement tools and developing/maintaining supplier partnerships.

ASQ Certifications Preferred – CQA, CQE,CQM, CSQP.

Knowledge and experience with Continuous Improvement Methodologies (6 Sigma, Lean Mfg. etc.)

Green Belt/Six Sigma Black Belt certification – a plus.

Experience in SAP – a plus.
