Junior Network Engineer

Location: Houston, TX

Overview:

The Network Engineer will be responsible for the management, configuration, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure across a wide geographical enterprise environment. This role involves significant hands-on work and collaboration with a team of experienced engineers to ensure operational excellence and the achievement of all technical goals.

Responsibilities:

- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues to maintain high service levels and minimize downtime.

- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of network systems to ensure functionality and efficiency.

- Deploy, configure, and optimize network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and other related technologies.

- Participate in the design and implementation of new network solutions to support organizational growth and technological advancement.

- Provide technical support and guidance remotely for field technicians and other network users.

- Engage in continuous learning to stay abreast of new technologies and practices that may benefit the organization.

- Document all operational procedures and configurations to assist in quick resolution of future issues and to maintain business continuity.

- Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments on technology projects and issues.

- Undertake special projects and additional responsibilities as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

- In-depth knowledge of Cisco route/switch technologies, Palo Alto firewalls, and Cisco Umbrella operations.

- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues effectively.

- Comprehensive understanding of routing protocols, network security, and wireless technologies.

- Experience with Python scripting for network automation is highly desirable.

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong communication skills, capable of working constructively with diverse teams.

- Ability to physically install network hardware and perform maintenance activities as needed.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 80 pounds, bending, and crawling during installations and maintenance.

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- At least 5 years of relevant experience in network engineering.

- Industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, Palo Alto Certifications) are advantageous but not required.

Work Conditions:

- This position requires on-site presence for at least three days per week to foster teamwork and cultural integration.

- Must be available to travel occasionally as required by the role.
