Role Title: Retreat Coordinator & Theology Teacher Hours: Full-time

Supervised by: Assistant Principal for Campus Ministry FLSA Status: Exempt

Role:

The Campus Minister for Retreat Life is tasked with the opportunity to offer time and experiences for its community members to examine God’s presence in their lives, the purpose of their lives in service to others, and the transformative power of God’s love in the world, manifested through believers. This opportunity requires living in a constant assessment of meeting the developmental needs of faith for each generation of students in the formation of their faith. Creativity, imagination, Catholic theological grounding, and accountability for healthy spiritualities of high school-aged learners are of primary consideration. While Mater Dei has an already established curriculum, retreat program, and other faith-based ministries, the administration is open to re- imagining, through a strategic approach, a ministry design that effectively and deeply touches the lives of its campus community members with God’s presence. A ministry program that intentionally explores God in the lives of all members and who they are in the world and inspires the learning community to an abundant faith and practice is the call in this vocation.

Primary Teaching Responsibilities:

Teach 4 Theology classes, including Instruct Campus Ministry Practicum II;

Provides grade-appropriate instructional program per the department guidelines to include, lesson planning, classroom preparation, assessment of each student’s performance;

Collaborate with the Theology department to ensure consistency between classes;

Maintain online grade books and posting of grades through Schoology, Mater Dei Catholic High School’s Online Learning Management System, as well as its resources pages for parents/students;

Provides grade-appropriate extended or enrichment opportunities;

Supervises students;

Maintains an orderly classroom;

Participates in faculty meetings, school committees and in-services;

Communicates promptly with parents;

Attends other school functions and activities as necessary; and

Other duties as assigned.

Primary Campus Ministry Duties:

Coordinate Senior Campus Ministers to effectively plan, promote and lead retreats on and off campus;

Give Campus Ministers an understanding of the importance of their work through study of retreat spirituality;

Comprehensive spiritual formation of Campus Ministers;

Planning of Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Retreats (Senior retreats modified Kairos developing into a full Kairos program);

Plan and lead a campus minister training retreat. Plan and lead the campus minister training retreat before or at the start of the school year. (55-60 students);

and induction Mass the Saturday before school starts;

Maintain Campus Ministry retreat budget. Work with administration to organize logistics of all retreats. Work with administration to set all Campus Ministry event dates for school year;

Assist in developing and implementing the faith life and Catholic mission of the Mater Dei community;

Model for the students a faith-filled life of prayer and service;

Collaborate with ASB to run freshman orientation;

Maintain a portion of the school website. “Campus Ministry in collaboration with the

Principal and AP of Campus Ministry; and

Inform faculties department and food service of on-campus retreat set-up requirements.

Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to students

Employ effective class management techniques

Works cooperatively with the school and staff

Excellent people skills and professional demeanor

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Religious Studies, Theology, Pastoral studies, or other related

degree (master’s degree preferred)

Successful experience in high school classroom teaching

Minimum 3 years of experience in secondary education retreat/youth ministry is preferred

Critical thinker, strong communicator, an inspirational and visionary faith-based leader

Student-focused, culturally competent, self-aware, organized and adaptable, constant learner

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all constituents and with the public
