The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated and passionate Interior Designer to complement our Vancouver office, where we are involved in exciting work across a range of building types including commercial, mixed-use, retail, industrial, hospitality, public buildings, and healthcare.
You will manage the interior design direction on several concurrent projects and provide project leadership. Assist with business development and present to clients. Mentor and coach intermediate and junior interior designers. Responsibilities may include project management and contract administration. Healthcare experience is essential.
Here’s what you’ll be doing at Kasian:
Plan
Take responsibility for the overall quality of the interior design product
Act as or work with the Project Manager (PM) to create work plans, drawing lists, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirements to deliver interior design solutions
Establish and maintain interior design production standards and procedures
Actively manage project fee budgets and costs to ensure profitability, draft fee agreements and contracts
Develop innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes and functions which are reflective of client goals and within the project budget
Render conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings
Deliver
Lead and participate in the Kasian design process including the creation of design concepts, presentation material, and submission documentation
Chair design and production meetings
Prepare and coordinate project schematic/conceptual designs
Prepare layouts, sketches and space plans required to convey design intent
Participate in strategic planning, client programming, and needs analysis phases
Work with technical and contract administration staff to produce successful design development and contract documentation in alignment with Kasian’s standards of quality, project specifications, and client program and budget needs
Work with authorities having jurisdiction to interpret and conform to codes and bylaws
Co-ordinate and/or undertake the selection and specification of furniture systems, fixtures, and equipment
Coordinate with project consultants and construction managers
Oversee all aspects of contract administration
Coordinate and/or undertake site deficiency review and installation inspections
Approve, monitor, and manage all time spent on projects, expenses, and consultant invoices
Maintain project records
Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff
Keep current with innovative and forward-thinking design including research on materials and products
Apply thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines to incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects
What you bring to Kasian:
Diploma or Degree in Interior Design
NCIDQ certification is preferred,
10 to 15 years of interior design experience, with 5 years minimum in healthcare projects.
Strong knowledge of current industry trends as well as local industry manufacturers and representation
Ability to prepare and complete a comprehensive interior design construction set of drawings
Advanced design awareness and knowledge of interior design principles and elements
Advanced understanding of construction and construction administration process
Knowledge of applicable building codes and by-laws
Permit application knowledge,
Strong knowledge and proficiency in graphics software (Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Suite)
Excellent graphic presentation and design layout skills
Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork skills
Ability to develop and maintain client relationships
Ability to present to, and negotiate with clients
Excellent problem-solving skills
Be able to lead projects with minimal supervision
Demonstrate knowledge and experience in delivering high-quality design solutions
Salary starts at $78,000 + per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, and skill set.
