TARGAN is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join its Automation and Controls Engineering group. This person will specify and design the electrical infrastructure for TARGAN machinery. This machinery will include production and R&D equipment. To do this the Engineer will have to be able to select electrical componentry, working closely with procurement and other engineering groups. The Engineer for this position will be expected to produce a quality schematic diagram to facilitate the wiring of an industrial panel or piece of equipment. This will require close work with other members of the team to ensure the desired mechanical layout of said panel. Finally, the candidate for this position will work with TARGAN and external production entities to ensure a quality product with fidelity to the desired electrical design.

The primary function of this job is to design industrial equipment, aka industrial panels.

Be able to effectively use a schematic design software package such as AutoCAD Electrical, or ideally Solidworks Electrical.

Must have working knowledge of standards such as UL508a, NFPA 70, etc., and be able to apply them to create panel designs.

Understand environmental type ratings and specify enclosure cabinetry accordingly.

Preferably have a good understanding of types of electrical products that go into industrial panel designs such as circuit protection, power supplies, AC drives, contactors, etc.

Ideally be familiar with control elements that go into panel designs such as I/O, PLC controllers, safety, etc.

Familiarity with companies that produce industrial componentry and have a working knowledge of their product lines is a plus.

Have good base practices such as consolidating FLA, heat, SCCR, etc. calculations into spreadsheets or similar.

Must be detail-oriented regarding schematics and take full ownership.

An understanding of good mechanical layout of industrial panels such as routing of AC vs. DC conductors, etc.

This position works in conjunction with other engineering teams: being a team player is a must. Requirements:

Education:

A bachelor's or master’s in electrical engineering is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience designing industrial equipment, control panels, or similar with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. In lieu of a B.S. degree: 6-10 years of experience

Must have functional knowledge using an electrical schematic creation program such as AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks Electrical, or similar

Additional Qualifications:

Proficient in designing electrical systems in AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical or similar - required.

Familiarity with UL508a for control panel design – is required.

Familiarity with ISO13849 and other standards for safety – preferred.

Familiarity with UL certification – preferred.

Experience with CE certification – preferred.

Solidworks 3D mechanical experience – nice to have.

Professional Engineer (PE) license – very nice to have (Senior position).

Familiarity with I/O fieldbus systems – nice to have.

Drives experience including AC and Servo – nice to have.

Experience establishing standards for drawings, etc. – nice to have.

Familiarity with safety systems and design – preferred.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, a laboratory, a machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. The level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather.

Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business), and customer sites (hatcheries).
