Cleaning Associate

Part Time, Non-Exempt

$16.00/hour

Position Summary:

Cleaning associates perform porter, cleaning and janitorial duties throughout the facility. Cleaners are primarily responsible for cleaning museum buildings, including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, cleaning and restocking restrooms. The cleanliness and appearance of the Museum are critical to the success of the museum.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Job Duties:

Clean, sanitize and restock restrooms throughout the shift as required

Respond to spills, accidents and other immediate cleaning needs

Empty trash and recycling throughout the day

Sweep debris as needed both inside and outside museum buildings

Responsible for clean-up, decontamination, and disposal of bodily fluids on an as needed basis. Follows all safety procedures related to this task.

Additional Responsibilities:

Responsible for cleaning restrooms as per work scope outlined by Facility manager.

Sweeping and mopping as directed.

Vacuum, dust, spot carpet clean as directed

Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures.

May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.

Empty trash and recycling as directed.

Clean windows as directed.

Understand and be able to perform emergency procedures (i.e. fire evacuation, accident reporting).

Assist in receiving of supplies

Job Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of high school diploma

Experience:

Previous commercial cleaning experience preferred but not required.

Skills:

Dependability

Awareness of safety and health procedures

Consistency and attentiveness

Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage:

Employee can expect to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Moves throughout the museum, on a regular basis to clean.

Lifting of heavier objects (such as furniture) may be done occasionally and may be performed with assistance. Position includes climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

Essential duties of this position will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.

Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements:

Hours will be determined on as needed basis.

Position will require weekend availability and occasional evening hours depending on the shift.

Essential duties of this position will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.

Clearances:

FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
