Research Intern - RI CIRP -Yang

Overview:

The Center for Injury Research and Policy, located in The Research Institute of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a summer internship position in injury research. The person in this position will under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Ginger Yang and will assist in sports injury research conducted by Dr. Yang?s research team.

Dr. Yang?s research is highly collaborative and includes collaborations with the researchers both inside and outside of The Ohio State University.

The Center for Injury Research and Policy is one of 11 CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers and focuses on the prevention of injury among children and adolescents. Its faculty members are active in injury research and prevention at local to global levels. Center faculty members teach and mentor students at The Ohio State University and from across the nation. Its global injury research program includes ongoing projects with its affiliate faculty in low- and middle-income countries and a visiting scholars program. Through multiple partnerships, the Center has established collaborative networks of injury professionals regionally, nationally and globally. A translational research team helps faculty members disseminate their research findings.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in reviewing and summarizing the current literature in related topics.

2. Assists in developing study protocols and conducting policy content analysis.

3. Assists in preparation and writing manuscripts for publication in peer peer-reviewed journals.

4. Assists in preparing applications and study amendments for the Institutional Review Board.

5. Maintains and organizes study files, protocols, and documents.

6. Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Currently working towards a Masters of Public Health or Administration, or equivalent degree, with at least 6 months of research experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in public health, social and behavioral sciences, or related fields required, with one to two years of research experience, preferred. Background in public health, social and behavioral sciences, injury and violence prevention, and/or related fields desirable.

2. Use research methods in setting up study components, and conducting content analysis.

3. Demonstrate initiative, motivation, attention to detail, and creativity.

4. Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

5. Excellent verbal and written communication.

6. Goal-oriented, self-directive, and collaborative.

7. Able to actively participate as a team player.

8. Able to work individually on various research tasks as assigned.

9. Computer literate and able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with statistical packages, such as SAS, SPSS or STATA desirable.

Desirable

1. Ability to help in preparation of scientific publications.

2. Excellent communication and writing skills.

3. Experience or interest in public health policy, injury prevention, and violence research.

4. Ability to collaborate with professionals from various disciplines.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to see, hear, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation and care for oneself, with little or no difficulty. Performance of principal duties and responsibilities may require ability to travel.
