Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!

Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2023:

Aviation (Syracuse, NY)

Our Aviation team supports all National Grid departments that require aerial services. The team operates helicopters and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) that support inspections of our company assets. For the summer you will be assisting the team with performing research on aircrafts, payloads, potential use cases, and data management.

Billing Operations (Syracuse, NY)

Our Billing Operations team is responsible for processing over 6.7 million bills monthly. The team utilizes two billing systems to ensure billing accuracy and timeliness for all customers. For the summer you will assist the team with metrics reporting, data validation, and process automation. You will also work on process improvements initiatives to current manual processes.

Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence (Liverpool, NY)

Our Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence team is responsible for all company training (instructor led & virtual learning) in the US and UK. The team is driven by innovation as we work to transform how learning is designed and delivered at National Grid. For the summer you will work alongside the team to review current training materials and help with digital conversion of current classroom training curriculum.

IT NY Jurisdiction (Syracuse, NY)

Our IT NY Jurisdiction team is responsible for the collection, tracking, and performance of our financial targets. The team also communicates planned system outages to the company and facilitates compliance with regulatory and financial requirements. For the summer you will assist the team in preparing meeting presentations, performance reporting, and executing employee engagement activities.

Meter Data Services (Syracuse, NY)

Our Meter Data Services team is responsible for the collection of all customer meters and provides customer meter data daily for Customer Billing and Wholesale/Retail Settlement which is critical to the company revenue stream. For the summer you will assist the team in daily tasks which includes analyzing customer meter data as it relates to billing purposes, and current projects like green energy initiatives and system application upgrades.

NY Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) (Syracuse, NY)

Our Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team is responsible for providing timely and accurate information to enable business leaders to make informed decisions around SHE performance. For the summer you would work alongside members of the team to support safety policies and assist with various reporting objectives.

Process and Performance Improvement - NY Electric (Syracuse, NY)

Our Process and Performance Improvement (Ny Electric) team works seamlessly with the NY Electric Maintenance and Construction team to strategically analyze the company’s strengths and weaknesses, metric performance, and mitigate risk to help enable meeting the organization's long-term goals. For the summer you will assist the team in Power BI dashboard metric reporting, labor and overtime analysis, as well as rental billing processing.

Quality & Compliance Assurance (Syracuse, NY)

Our Quality & Compliance Assurance team performs compliance assurance assessments of our company to ensure maintenance and construction activities are accurately performed against all applicable company policies and federal and state code requirements. For the summer you will work with the team to conduct regulatory audits, report building in applications such as PowerBI, and help to identify improvement opportunities that can be implemented.

What You’ll Need

Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023

Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester

Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree

Majoring in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Data Science, Graphic Design, GIS or a related field

Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age

Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States

Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer

Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range

$19.00 - $21.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$28.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
