GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for variety of technical activities associated with the performance of screening and diagnostic mammography procedures.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Center Manager, monthly QC reporting reviewed with Lead Technologist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Greet patient and provides instructions on procedures.

Perform a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammographic radiographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate. Follow safety standards and use radiation protection when operating radiologic equipment.

Position patients for exams. Calculate exposure factors, assist physicians.

Perform the quality control functions related to mammography.

Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality obtaining additional images as needed.

Prepare and set up medical supplies using aseptic techniques if appropriate. Explain procedures to patients.

Provide orientation to new Mammography Technologists.

Assist in maintenance and compilation of statistical data.

Demonstrate proficiency in performing all breast imaging procedures, to include breast interventional procedures.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an AMA approved school of radiologic technology.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years’ experience in radiologic imaging modalities; one year of Mammography and bone densitometry experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURE: Licensed in the State of Florida and ARRT certification in Radiography (RT(R)). Current ARRT certification in Mammography (M) BLS Certification.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Proficiency with Mammography & Bone Density procedures and protocols.

Anatomy and physiology.

Experience with the use, QA, and troubleshooting of various types of radiologic equipment.

Radiation safety and protection requirements for staff, patients and visitors.

Experience with interventional procedures for the breast.

Ability to use computer and network systems for processing and submitting images for interpretation by radiologist.

Emergency response: knowledge of AED function, crash cart location and oxygen tank usage. Ability to respond to untoward medical event with calm demeanor and proficiency.

ABILITIES:

Ability to work in a cooperative nature within and outside department with staff, patients and families.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion. Must be able to lift/carry/move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires positioning of patients. Requires 20/20 correctable vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Medical office, mammography exam and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, needles, and communicable diseases. Work location may vary between sites.
